Cant believe I paid £8 for one of these tax disc that stick on to car windscreen and in less than 5 months it's fallen of windscreen. Its cold tonight around 4-5c but surely they are meant to last longer than 5 months. They meant to stick on semi-permanently so you can reuse the tax disc unscrewing it with supplied allen key

I cleaned screen first with merps and then screen cleaner just to make sure I had a clean screen

Anyone know where to get the stickers cheap Halfords want nearly £5 for 6 plastic stickers and £3.50 from these plus £3 postage

Ebay £4+

May as well get a cheap tax disc than pay that silly price

Don't you have stuff around the house you can use?

I mean.. if it's really meant to be permanent and you never intend to take the thing off, even when selling your car.. then superglue springs to mind.

You could always use a normal plastic floppy one like the rest of us.

Of course your car would be worth considerably less than it is with a metal tax disc holder, maybe a few grand or so.

I tried several different tax discs, one cheap magnetic one consisted of two discs one was magnetic but it didnt adhere very well and kept falling off. I then tried a cheap 50-80p one from wilkos but is was so small for tax disc to fit in between two plastic sheets that I ended up cutting the tax paper disc around perforated edges so it would fit in, but even then the plastic part kept folding down so had to use some plastic tape and it looks naff so I though sod it I buy a decent one

This consists of 6 rubber type plastic stickers, its fine until it got cold tonight and dropped of the screen

Its meant to be semi permanent I expect the disc to last a couple of years not 5 months and then pay £5 odd for some crappy stickers down line, I may as well get a cheap one in this case

Thanks for link newman out of stock at mo, cheers

Its not about prestige hell car is almost 10 years old and good nick its more to do with having something do job properly and look right, as I said I did try a cheap tax disc plastic one but it was too small
  • my girlfriend has one similar and it suffered from the same, it fell off after a few months and is now jammed in the air vent on top of her dash board.

ive got a wilkos one in my van,it works fine and ive got one of those magnetic ones in my car,it works great aswell, ive had that for a few years now and its very quick and simple to change the disc.
    ...work permit granted!

Could the screen cleaner have left a residue? First clean the windscreen, then use meths last - that would remove any residue.

I must say I always think those metal discs look cheap and tatty. I prefer the free plastic ones you get with insurance etc but each to their own.

You should never use merps to clean your windscreen.;)

Normally the garage supplying the car will fit a flexible tax disc holder and then when you renew your insurance most insurance co's will supply them free.

The merps I used is pink in colour is dissolves in air, I was told its good for cleaning screens, wiper blades etc by local car shop many years ago. I then used Simonez cleaner that gets rid of film, dirt etc I made sure is dry with micro fibre cloth to be on safe side.

Its been fine for 5 months its the cold spell that did it
