I also have a new found love for coins.
I save 1p, 2p, 5p, 20p, 50p and £2 coins and i love counting them and watching the total build until its time to go and bank them.
I now have the whole family keeping a sharp eye out for any little glint of copper or silver on the ground.

OH paid the window cleaner last night and included a £2 coin which was destined for my special £2 coin jar. Felt strangely upset by it.......0

It is wrong to want to throttle an old lady who pays you with a note for 6 buttons and so you have to give her some of your £2 coin stash? This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

:rotfl: Think someone is getting obsessed!
I love coins as well. I really like collecting all sorts now and then taking them to the HSBC coin sorter and paying them into my account. Pouring it all in and seeing it go through, adding it up, it's tangibly seeing my debt coming down that bit more every time.
LOVE IT! :TBank Balance: In the black for the moment.

HSBC have those coin sorters, I thought they were just extortionate ways to make money in supermarkets and other places!!! Tell me more?0

Coinsorters in supermarkets tend to take something like 7p in every pound that you deposit. Then they spit out a "voucher" for the balance which you give to the check out person and they take it off your bill. Can be handy at Christmas and stuff if you don't mind handing over 7p or so of each pound.
However I discovered my local (to work) HSBC bank has a very sturdy coin sorter which doesn't take anything - it pays every penny you deposit into your nominated bank account and it is very very easy to use. It accepts all coins.
Whether you can use it if you are a non HSBC/First Direct customer, I don't know (I am FD) but I would enquire if you are interested.
Or maybe other bank chains also have similar machines? Just check they are "free" first but I would have thought they were.
Go for it if you can....see your overdraft (if you have one) come down before your very eyesBank Balance: In the black for the moment.

I am glald I stumbled upon this thread. Does anyone else have problems with paying bags of coins in to their Bank account? I had a HUGE row with the Assistant Manager of the local Halifax Bank yesterday because she refused to accept more than 5 bags worth of coins (I had 22 quids worth all correctly bagged and they weighed a ton, but she still wouldn't budge). I asked what sort of Bank it was that was choosy about what type of cash was paid into the account! She tried to tell me that other Banks CHARGE for taking your bags of coins - surely this can't be right? I asked her what would happen if I was paying that money in to ensure I didn't go over my overdaft (I wasn't but that is hardly the point) and she said - too bad, I would incur a 30 quid charge if I went over my overdraft!!!!! I'm going to have this problem every month now because we have a mortgage pig (see MFW site for further explanation) and all our loose change goes into that with a view to paying a chunk off the mortgage every month - however small the chunk may be. I am seriously considering changing to a Bank that is not choosy about the type of money I pay into my account. What do others think? I am being oversensitive? I haven't had any other problems with Halifax before now but it just seems ludicrous to me.0

Mrs Optimist: Blimey that seems ridiculous but I wouldn't put it past them. I know banks charge businesses for getting change for their tills!
Try & find out if you can pay money into your bank via the Post Office and it they charge for taking bags of coins? Or maybe they will swap coins for notes free of charge?
Or maybe you can get friendly with a shop which gets charged for change and see if you can swap for notes? (Are you ok at checking for forgeries though?)Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
