Here is my other more important dilemma.
DS (turned 6 in June, in Yr2 at school) has always been the intense one of the family, ever saince the day he was born.. Very prone to anxiety, transition always a nightmare, never into telly, always needed entertaining, had horrendous tantrums even in the middle of the night, nightmare to potty train. But has a lovely gorgeous caring side.
Over the summer his behaviour got harder and harder to manage, He has always been the one to push boundaries, not listen, dither around, go off in a day dream, argue the toss, and so on and I have always thought he is a bit different to other boys his age, not massively just a little bit and probably noone else notices.
His report last year from school, along with all the comments from his teacher throughout theyear, was that academically he is doing ok but he wont stay on task, has to be asked several times to do something (example in his report was being asked 3 times to put his jumper in the box), always last at everything - any piece of work, getting changed for PE, going out at playtime, coming back in after playtime. At football he is always playing with the grass, staring at the sky while the ball sails past.
Anyway I went to the GP in September and she referred him to the community paediatriian. We booked the appt and then the consultant cancelled it and wrote to my GP to say he had been referred to the wrong person and that if it had been suspected Autistic Spectrum Disorder that they would be the right peoplem but if ti was suspected ADHD it would be a different route. Personally I thinkm if its anything it is mild ADHD with the inattentive element, he is not hyper or impulsive, well no more than a normal 6 year old boy. His teacher this year , when asked if she thought I should have him assessed, said "as he is doing ok at school then no". GP says the route now is to go to school, talk to them, get the Ed Psych involved and set some questionnaire completed, and if it ticks the right boxes then the referral is to CAMHS.Sorry I know its rambly and waaaaaay off topic, I should probably post on some special needs website but I wanted to ask all my friends here if anyone has had experience of this and what I should do as I think I will have a fight on my hands.
His behaviour (ironically ) has improved over the last couple of weeks but I suspect it is only a matter of time before it flares up again. I think this is probably inconcitent with a behaviour disorder where the poor behaviour would be present all the time ?? School also suggested a parenting course and whilst I was nitially a bit p'ed off, (I have been on them before and they tell you nothing new but do serve as a focus) I decided to appease them(if nothing else) I will go on the one they recommend, and am doing so but not til January.
We have parents evening tomorrow night and I cant decide whether to mention it all then as clearly it will take more than the allotted 10 minutes, or whether to ask for another appointment, or whether to ask to meet with the SENCO or what to do.
My head is in a spin, DH is in denial and I dont know what to do. Any suggestions welcome!

JILL D - Speak to SENCO and get Ed psychologist involved. Mum's tend to know there children better than anyone else. As a mum with 2 ASD children (one extremely so and one high functioning) I personally think it is ASD as opposed to ADHD, from what you have written. Either way, get every ball rolling that you can. These things can take forever to diagnose and then get the necessary things in place. If you need to talk it through, please PM me and I will be glad to talk. Its a horribe time and sometimes it helps to talk to someone further along the process than you. Also, check out National ~Autistic Society they have a lot of very helpful links there. Good luck. Evening all
Dinner eaten, DW on just having 10 minutes on here before getting DS3 to do his homework and trumpet practice (Woody is quite used to the sound of the trumpet now and does not act like the world is about to end).
Jill thoughts - is his hearing ok? DS3 has 'problem' hearing with good days and bad days. I always speak to him face to face and expect acknowledgement that he has heard and understood instructions. Have you tried fish oils (this is not medical advice just something I have found useful in the past). Is he happy? Does he take things very literally (ie 'it's raining cats and dogs - expects there to be cats and dogs?). Most importantly - go with your heart if you think something is amiss then I'd say there is a strong chance that you are right. A big hug too.
Frodders - hope you are feeling a bit better this evening sweetie
Fedup and FeeFee hugs for both of you
Soappie how are you getting used to cooking for one?
Toots and LL thinking of my special friends as always
I've had a day of giving advice here at Dusty towers - it's like a mini CAB here some days so if anybody else wants to ask a question feel free! The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
JillD I have to say that that sounds a lot like my DS, the not paying attention and always pushing the boundaries.
He is still the same now at nearly 17:cool:
But does it really mean he has a problem? I am not so sure
But if you are concerned, ask for ED pysch to get it checked out:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -
Wilf loved the alarm clock comment!
Jinky can you change the noise the alarm makes? We sometimes have to do that when we start sleeping through the alarm on my mob, I think we get used to hearing it! I sometimes wish I could get a claxon, I think it’s the only thing that would get DH out of bed on time!
Great news Mudbath! Where did you get the chocolate oranges on BOGOF? (the great news bit refers to your son sleeping and going to school, but well done on chocolate oranges too!)
Feefee glad to see you posting, I’d been wondering how you are getting on. Big hugs to you xx
Has anyone seen Emily lately?
Hugs Jill and Fedup
I've cleaned bathroom sink so I will be ahead on bathroom day. Not really done much else, spent ages trying to find car documents as DH came home early and I made him fill out the forms about the crash he had in July. Really need to go through all our paperwork and file it properly, at the mo it's just in one big mess.
Feel a bit overwhelmed with the mess in here today. i can't seem to get on top of it. Have got to tackle at least one more area this week and declutter it. Does anyone else find that when you get one area really nice the rest of place seems more messy?"Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together."
