High time for more council houses

Isn't the Aylesbury the largest estate in northern Europe or something?
Or the largest social hosing estate?0 -
I think I have led a sheltered life.
The nearest I have ever come to a tower block is when my train broke down in Springburn and I decided to get a taxi into Glasgow city centre.
It was a revelation to me. Frankly I was terrified.
But for the first time I understood why people forced to live in those kind of conditions become feral themselves.
There but for the grace of god goes me
I love the flats in Dublin where they have horses grazing on the grass outside

Oh no don't get me wrong, I live in a council houseI actually find these both rather pleasing to look at, and I would happily live in a high rise- think of the views.
The only reason these are so hated now is that they were built on the cheap as the parties fought over who could build the most houses the quickest.
As the idea that the council is a bad landlord... well, they can't be any worse than private landlords. That's before you get into any 'value for money' debates, since the council would have to be considerably worse for you to get the same value. I know loads of people who would have a council house at the drop of a hat if it was possible (and the waiting lists back that up)
, its the sardine-ness (?:o), lack of community spirit and generally sh!ter quality of life etc about the high-rises i dislike We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung

Ballymun:eek:
I knew a girl who was a teacher there.
She said the first thing they did was make a big bowl of porridge & give them breakfast.
If they fell asleep at their desks they let them sleep, they figured it was so chaotic at home they might not get uninterrupted safe sleep.0 -

I can't see too many buying on the Aylesbury:eek:
When I used to go to Wythenshawe they had a taxi service from the car park to the office 50 yards away  Some famous people born there though, funnily enough one the of the tv Londoners, young Steptoe
