i wouldnt go for the 8520, 8900 is alot better got one my self.

aye, but what about the roller ball?

I have a pearl 8100 and am hoping to upgrade to the 8520 (rather than the 8900) for precisely the reason that the ball has gotten so gummed/fluffed up in my 8100 that it's barely functional!

a nice smooth tracker pad in the 8520 (despite the poorer screen specs) will be an improvement for me!

Its a newer handset in that its only just been launched. However, blackberry are marketing it as an entry level handset so it is by all accounts cheaper. Main differences are:

8900 has GPS, 8520 doesn't.
8900 supports DivX 4 videos, 8520 doesn't.
8900 supports more music formats than the 8520.
8900 screen res is 480 x 360, 8520 screen res is 320 x 240
