Re: Speeding

Hey, think I've been caught speeding twice within two days. Each time not doing more than 5mph over the speed limit. Dont want to get into the ins and outs of speeding I should of been paying more attention to my speed and if they where speed cams then I know I was in the wrong my question is when will they contact me to let me know about this? As my insurance is due mid night month to renew and if I do get these 6 points it will mean a ban from driving.

Any help would be great, thanks

    Fixed cameras presumably?

What makes you think you've been caught?
  • If it was 5mph you will most likely get contacted and get a fine and points. If you have been flashed twice and havn't had any speeding convictions in the last 3 years you will probably get offered to go on the driver's awareness course and still have to pay a fine. So if they are both followed up you will have to pay 2 fines but only get 3 points!! good luck!!

Wasn't the fixed type they where the white vans parked up with the cams peeking out of them (they have them for tax / insurance normally around here) as they have the traffic cops in the evos and scoobys about. Been driving for about 19 months aswell :(

Can we assume that you already have 6 points on your licence?

If yes, were they also for speeding?

If you are lucky you might get a 'speed awareness course' offer.

If you do, take it as you are clearly not fit to be on the road at the moment.

Otherwise you will be banned and I, for one, won't be sorry if you learn a lesson.

If your speedo said precisely 35 and you were in a 30 zone you'll probably be ok as speedos tend to over-read. Hopefully a lesson learnt to be more observant anyway :) at least you're aware of the potential conequences.
  • try not to worry for now and wait your 14 days to see if and what comes through the post. May be lucky, but theres no point worrying about what ifs. I know its hard but just try and forget about it till then, im sure if you hear nothing in 14 days its unenforceable anyway, even if they do send you a letter? worth checking that though as it may have changed

Been driving for about 19 months

If you get 6 points within the first 2 years of passing your test, they don't ban you as such, they revoke your license.

You can apply straight away, but you'll be back on a provisional and will have to take the whole driving test again to get your full license back.
The points will remain on the license until they expire.

If you get the chance to do the Drivers Awareness course as mentioned above, take it.

    +1

My Alfa seems to overread by about 4 mph at 30mph, when compared to my satnav unit.

My Punto also overreads by 4-5mph. I go by the satnav, not the speedo. So if the OP thinks he was 5mph over, he may well not have been speeding at all.
