What can we do?

I am going out of my mind! I am so sick of living where we are but we cannot afford to move! We have groups come by to visit a couple of the neighbours and they kick their footballs at the windows allllll the time, throw eggs at the house and paint.
Let me just say, we have never done anything to these people at all.
They seem to have just chosen us as their main target for no reason that I can see.
I have complained and fill out diary logs for our housing association but still nothing has been done. This has been going on since 2003, the only thing that changes are the people doing it. We have had the same group now for a couple of years and it seems like they are not giving up. Though the 6 weeks holidays were pretty quiet its all started up again now with 6 incidents so far in 7 days!
The HA keep saying they need names, we dont know the names, cant find out the names so cannot give the names! It is so annoying and we are pretty much at the end of our tether with the whole thing. They stress us out and they even stress out my poor dogs to the point they shake and run for cover everytime they hear a bang.
I cant wait until we have money to get out of this place. I wanted to get a swap so we didnt lose the security of a HA house, but who would want to swap to here anyway?!
Not sure why Im posting really, just wondering if there is more the HA could be doing. Seems like no names = no help.

    why not involve the police
  • Do you have a local community police officer you could speak to. They could send a couple of officers to patrol your area. We have them on a regular basis come past our home and it is reasurring to know they are there.

How you are expected to know the names of these lowlife is beyond me.

Do you know why they are congregating by your home is there an entryway that could be blocked I know in the Birmingham area the council have put gates on all entrys to stop gangs.

Do talk to the Police about what you can do to stop this anti social behaviour.

    Good Luck

I do, I call the police when they are kicking the ball at the windows. Ive called them twice this week and also the street wardens. I dont think they even come out! I got a call from the police hours after they had gone the other night to see if they were still here and obviously I said no so they didnt come since they had missed them.

You know I was just going to ask what the police are doing, whether you have CCTV.

But I know sadly from bitter experience that the police don't always respond to incidents that get reported to them.

I'd say move for peace of mind and a better quality of life, but if that's impossible you need to find out where your local homewatch is and go and ask the coppers who go to those meetings what they're doing about ASB.

Ring and get a log number for every incident. Put CCTV up.

Mind you, we've got CCTV up here which has reduced the problems here but the same youths now shout at us when we go out in the car.
My next step is CCTV in the car.
The police haven't responded to the last couple of calls I've made - one including having one of the yobs spit at the car.

No wonder that poor woman killed herself in the end

Im not sure how we are supposed to know! I only know one kids name (neighbour) so searched him on Facebook and through his friends list but they all look the same in a tracksuit really lol.
They congregate at our neighbours houses since they are friends with a couple of lads in the street. I do sometimes think about asking our neighbour for the names but I am pretty sure he wouldnt give them to me so no point even asking really.

what a terrible situation for you. you would think the police would try and help you. especially with all the publicity in the last few weeks about the poor lady who was hounded by thugs. maybe the local paper would pick up on it

Have they caused any criminal damage yet. If not I would try to ignore them to see if they get fed up. Have you spoken to the neighbours they are visiting. I would ask them calmly why they think these youths are targetting you like this. If they are as bad then maybe not such a good idea.

Not sure of your family dynamics but could you downsize to another property. Would the Housing association transfer you if they thought you had the size of home they need?

Just seen you reply re community officers. If you live on an estate your local police will give you this information.

There used to be a camera at the top of the street which calmed it but the HA say they can only leave it there for 3 months then have to move it for privacy reasons or some other utter you know what.
What annoys me too is we have heard them egging each other on to kick it at the house! Do these people not realise what effect their stupidity has on other people? I guess they probably do but couldnt give a monkeys.
We will move eventually but we havent got much money right now, bank account is getting so low I will be signing on next week for the first time.
I havent heard of homewatch before but we have started going to the community council meeting which the police attend but its only on every few months and the next one isnt until November.

  • We had a situation very similar to yours. Chavs kept chucking eggs etc at our house making a right mess. So one dark night i was so !!!!ed off with it all i grabbed my son and went round to one of the chavs houses and pelted a dozen eggs at their windows and walls. Not the bravest of things to do but the satisfaction was immense!!!!!!!!!. Do you know what? we didnt get much more after that.:j:p

if you are having no luck getting people to take you seriously you could try your local mp/councillor and see if they will take action on your behalf
