Why won't my BlackBerry Curve 8520 connect to UMA? My network which is Orange supports UMA and my home broadband is Virgin Media, this is a wireless network.

Got a feeling (and I could be very wrong) that an Orange BB only works with Orange broadband. . .0

Are you able to use your Virgin Media Wifi connection on your device if you turn off the mobile network. It sounds like it is a configuration issue or the mobile network is being as stronger than your home wireless solution.
Jon - UMA means that the device should switch over to a wireless network to cut costs so it would ot be restricted to a specific carrier.0 -

Yeah, I always thought that, but caught a thread on a gsm forum where peeps were having problems running an Orange BB through anything but an Orange broadband connection. A few saying it's wouldn't work on a BT line at all ???0 -
UMA worked on my old connection which was Sky, but it's not working with Virgin Media.0

Hi, did you ever resolve this problem?
I have a 8520, I'm on an Orange contract for mobile and I get broadband with it - so my internet connect is Orange too.
The WiFi symbol lights up and I can browse the net and use Blackberry maps - with the mobile network turned OFF.
In the Basic Wi-Fi diagnostics screen, under the 'BlackBerry Infrastructure', I get all 3 green ticks
However, Google maps doesn't work, and I can't make phone calls. Where the GPRS / EDGE and signal strength is shown, it just says 'OFF'
Any ideas?0
