hi,
i hope someone has some info or can help here with a problem i appear to have just been given!!
i recieved a threatening DCA letter today from fredrickson international for a debt i supossedly have with AOL. i have no idea what this is and on calling was told it was for unpaid internet( obviously!!)
i was with AOL years ago for dail up it was about the time broadband was new ect. i cancelled this and went with another provider , after this provider i went with virgin media and after two years with them switched to bt which was about 2 yrs ago now and i am still with bt.
anyway i have had no correspondence from AOL since i cancelled my monthly subs and as far as i am aware they took the last months payment and that was that, this must be 7 years ago now if not more.
how can i prove i do not owe this money? i have no paperwork as its so long ago and surely if i had not paid i would have heard something before now!( i know i cleared the bill as it was direct debit but i cant trace that either as it was an account i no longer have)
any advice ect would be really helpful, and i was told that if this was the case the debt would be statute barred now?? its for 50 odd quid!
i was also told by the dca i had to get codes from bt and also virgin to prove i had been with them surely this messing about is not my responsibility but thiers to prove i we this.

hi, its not for you to prove this alleged debt, as you say its stature barred, as its over 6 years old. if i were you i would tell dca to stick the letter up you know were:D0

Good old AOL again , do they ever get anybody's account correct?
If you're absolutely sure the sum in question is over 6 years ago then you've got nothing to be concerned about, I'd write and tell them that it's statute barred and to stop harassing you, I believe you could report them to Trading Standards about this.0 -

How much banging your head on a wall, getting paperwork and gawd knows what else could prove that to the scumbag company? Lots.
I'd ignore it completely and they will eventually go away. If you want to waste time then write to them and that'll no doubt set off numerous other letters and annoyances. These companies have no real people dealing with these low level debts it's all about bulk. Send out 1000 letters and they might get 30 good replies from numpties, ignorant, scared or easily intimidated. It's essentially scam tactics.
If they aren't phoning you ignore it. If they are then block their number.0 -
