Civil service job and bankrupt

Options
Does anyone have any experience applying for civil service jobs while undischarged bankrupt? I've just been offered a job and it hasn't been mentioned throughout the process - only mentioned subject to CRB check and now I've received my induction forms which asks are you undischarged bankrupt? Obviously, I will have to put yes but just wondering if anyone could put my mind at rest over the weekend before I ring HR on Monday.
Thanks:confused:

  • Hi I work for the civil service and a undischarged bankrupt. I have been working for them for 3 years and went bankrupt in the July 09. I know that there are some jobs you maynot be able to do, mainly things like insolvency service, accounts, and maybe some DWP/HMRC jobs. But unless its jobs like accounts and finance, there is not many employers what don't accept applications and give jobs to undischarged bankrupts.

I'd agree...I worked in the NHS for many years & they knew about my bankruptcy & didnt bother too much (in fact I still worked handling budgets etc for projects right up till I finished through poor health)

Good to know Phil, I often wonder if bankruptcy would come back to haunt when i'm qualified midwife.

see..thats the thing I found when I decided on bankruptcy..so many docs/nurses and some specialists bankrupt opened my eyes I can say! :D

even found out that 2 nurses I worked with had been discharged a few months before I had gone through with it.

Yes declared it on the crb form and nothing has ever been mentioned about it. Been working in civil service for 5 months now.
    Hope that helps

Absolutely! For various reasons, I undergo regular CRB checks (haha makes me sound dodgy!), and it doesn't show up on there at all. BR is a civil matter and not a criminal one.

Depends which 'bit' of the civil service. Police officers for instance, cannot be bankrupt. I would presume most other parts without direct money handling roles or 'corruptibility' issues would be ok?
