My conclusions concerning middle/senior civil service management is...they wouldn't last 5 seconds in the private sector......they just don't have the necessary skills or mindset.

you're well out of it, bobbledoo....besides, the pension scheme for new/incomers is pretty rubbish, compared to the old scheme...which wasn't brilliant...not compared to that of failed bank executives, anyway.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Hi everyone and thanks for your replies.

Just to let you know my current undischarged bankruptcy status did actually cause me a problem, however, I suspect I was unlucky with this particular HR manager. I was told that all cases were considered on their merits and I had to provide them with details of the circumstances of bankruptcy, which I duly did. They then asked for details of the amount of debt, how much I had already paid back including amounts and dates, and details of any IPA I had entered into. When I asked why they needed this I was simply told that I had to give as much info as possible and they repeated that each case was based on individual merits. I was not happy with this explanation nor was I prepared to divulge such personal information as I felt it had no relevance to the decision, debt is proportionate, for some people 20K is too much and others could have millions of pounds worth of debt before bankruptcy.
Anyway, I felt they were being nosey and very judgemental and I was so annoyed I have withdrawn my acceptance of the offer. After all, bankruptcy, is no reflection or your ability or professional conduct.
By the way, this was a performance management job, which did not involve handling or monitoring budgets or money, nor was it with the police. Guess I was just unlucky, their loss, I'm sure they'll be other employers out there who are less prejudice. But very frustrating, in 6 months I would be discharged and they would be none the wiser!
    Thanks again.
PS - the question was on their 'Legal Questionaire' which also asked about any criminal convictions - and indeed I was made to feel like a criminal!

hi bobbledoo! big shame that this caused a problem for you, however, i think i would have withdrawn from the job as you did. they really are out of order asking for that much personal information, and i wouldn't have felt comfortable working where someone knew the ins and outs of my finances! :eek:i'd be tempted to send a complaint letter in. i hope something else comes up soon. chin up! x
  • Agree completely raise a grievance. Particulary due to the nature of the job which is checking claims and not handling money.
