talktalk line rental, sky broadband?

Just moved house and have 6 months worth of the 18 month deal with talk talk left.
I have dropped the broadband as they were going to charge me a whack to re-connect it AND make me take out a new 18 month contract.
I only have a 12 month lease on my new house so I don't want an 18 month deal again.

There was going to be a £70 cancellation fee from talk talk, which was about the same as the money I would pay for the remaining monthly payments to Talk talk and they waved the set up fee at my new house.
So it made sense to drop the broadband, keep the phone line with TalkTalk and go looking for a new broadband supplier.
Whilst searching about it turns out most of the "cheap" broadband suppliers don't supply my postcode.
Sky does.
So I thought I'll take out a cheap sky package with broadband.
On phoning sky I was told that they would have to check my line to see if it was compatible with sky.

Will sky broadband work with an unbundled talk talk land line?
I have my doubts and see me having to pay for a new landline contract and talk talk cancellation charges:rolleyes:

What are your LLU options other than Sky? I would suggest 02, but only if LLU, do not take an O2 Access package.
I have a TT LLU landline and had no problems to get O2 broadband.

On a TalkTalk LLU line you can only have TalkTalk broadband.

You can get a free BT line installed subject to an 18 month contract. Early termination is £7.50 per month remaining, but you can take the line with you to your new address for no penalty

Yup,when I worked for Sky BBand, TTalk ceased hundreds of Sky's subscribers when they introduced this gem.

So how come I've got O2 broadband on a TT LLU landline (I pay line rental and call charges to TT)?

  • To get the Free Sky Broadband you need to take Sky Talk and you can only have this on a BT Line by CPS, or on a Sky Talk Line.

    Also see: http://packages.sky.com/surf/unbundled.aspx

"Sky is currently unable to transfer customers to our Broadband if they are with a provider who has taken over both the telephone line and broadband and moved them to their own LLU (fully unbundled) network. If you are fully unbundled you will be recognised as a Cable customer when you use the telephone checker as you no longer have a number recognised as telephone line on the BT network. Companies including Talk Talk provide these lines."

Don't need to be LLU to pay line rental to Talktalk. Not possible to be LLU with Talktalk and get broadband from another ISP.

But TT are LLU on my exchange, have been since 8/06 according to samknows, I only joined O2 broadband 3 months ago, but have been on TT for line rental for over a year.

This post isn't quite to the point but does re-iterate the fact that "To take broadband with another provider you need a BT line............no-one else can provide the service to you as you are connected to TalkTalks network" if you were LLU - http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=52457&postcount=4
You must have Talktalk WLR ie. BT line, rental payable to TT.

There are two ways you can pay line rental and calls to TT, one is WLR3 where everything is supplied to TT by BT but the bill comes from TT, the other is full LLU where the 'line' from your property is connected to TT's own equipment, cutting out BT Wholesale
If you are full LLU you wont be able to have broadband from anyone other than TT.
TT want to migrate their customers from WLR3 to LLU as and when the exchange gets TT equipment (or access to their equipment to be accurate) as its cheaper for them, but this would mean that anyone who has a WLR3 connection and an ISP other than TT would have to refuse to be moved onto full LLU if they wanted to keep their current ISP, sites like sam knows give broadband availability not LLU telephony availablity so its possible for an exchange to be listed as unbundled for broadband by TT but the telephony has to be a rebranded BT wholesale offering.
