I believe the paid version now allows you to store tracks to hardrive

So it does! But I assume they must be still locked into Spotify, so you can't migrate the music out as a separate file for reuse...

    Hi
It's possible to record whatever is coming through a computer's sound channel.
But Spotify is streamed in ogg format with a bitrate of 160Kbps.
If you then convert it to mp3 format the sound quality will be very poor.

depends on what you use to convert and how well you've matched the bitrates

It fundamental to Digital Signal Processing that if you have an analogue signal, sample it at bitrate X and resample at bitrate Y if the 2 aren't an exact match (ie same rate, one is exactly 2x or 4x etc the other) than you'll lose signal quality as the sample points won't match up and you end up approximating an approximation of the original signal.

I don't know spcifically how .ogg works but there should be a means to convert without further loss if you get things right.

Applies to format conversions/compressions regardless of whether you're needing to convert 'illegal' or legal audio files :)

Only people who pay for Spotify (premium memebers) can give out invitations, otherwise best to just add yourself to their waiting list

they couldn't cope with the demand so they had to change to invite only registrations.

You don't need an invite. Just open the page below, register and download their software:
