hi everyone I am currently with the Halifax at the moment and have been having problems with them, they keep cutting my overdraft like every couple months, luckily I live at home so can just afford to stay ahead of it.
but im looking at switching my bank as whenever they cut it they funnly enough ring me up saying I can have a credit card which i keep saying I don't want.

So am paying the remainder of my overdraft off and have been thinking about moving banks and think nationwide or co-op seems the best two can anyone tell me if they have had problems with these banks etc and what there customer services are like etc. I will have some direct debits to transfer onto the new account aswell, how easy is that to do, I have never switched banks so don't know much about changing them, if you have any siggestions for other banks please tell me I have only looked a couple.

Thank you for any help.
Angela

You'd do better posting in the bank account forum here

All banks have switching processes which (theoretically) manage everything including direct debits etc.

But best thing frankly would be just to pay off the overdraft.
  • Hiya thank you for that reply i have looked but how do i move the post? I noticed the other forum after I posted this.

i am in the process of paying off the overdraft, as i thought in order to close that account it would have to paid off anyway.
i am just fed up with the halifax keep cutting my overdraft I know they have the right to but would like an account that doesn't cut it every few months, i would still like an overdraft because of car MOT and that as I have had a couple years of no mot costs so think something has to go wrong soon lol.

Been with Smile (CO-OP) Internet bank for years. They will switch for you, never had any issues with them . They just seem to let you get on with your banking and leave you alone, not been in overdraft situation with them though. Their interest rate on current and savings accounts are pretty poor though, (Used to be pretty good at one time but no longer)

Both Nationwide and Co-op are highly recommended in surveys but I have had bad experiences with both.

    Co-op
Many many years ago I was going to transfer my bank account to the Co-op. I received a cheque book but no card. As I needed the card to reach my money I did not make a substantial deposit without it. It turned out that they would not issue the card until I had made a substantial deposit but they did not inform me. So after a few weeks without progress I closed the account.

Recently I had a fixed term bond with the Co-op. Despite opting for no marketing I received a call some months before it was due to mature alleged from my nearest branch referring to a bond that was about to mature. I refused to speak to them and being suspicious rang the Customer Service Desk. There I was asked for my PIN which I had no recollection of choosing as it was a Branch certificate account.(I knew that they were expecting a memorable name. I wondered if the PIN related to a credit card I had many years earlier). Having answered 8 or so personal security questions they were no help whatsoever and suggested that I rang the branch the next day! When the time cam to close the account I went to a branch and they issued a cheque for the balance. When I later complained that I had received no closing statement I was informed that the account had been left open with zero balance in case I wanted to use it as an instant access account! I had already been offered that option and declined it. I had to make another trip to the branch (which is not nearby) to close the account and withdraw a couple of pounds additional interest.

    Nationwide
Good to have the options of online, telephone, ATM and counter access. Generally a very good banking service except for the time that they put an extra zero on to the amount of a standing order. However, I have had no end of bother with them over the years with bonds and other accounts. The online messaging to customer service is rubbish. The target times to respond are too long and they often don't meet those targets (even to respond to complaints about missing targets!). Sometimes they don't respond at all.

To be honest, if your issue with halifax is just the reduction in overdraft in a number of stages then don't bother moving - it's likely that any other bank would have done the same thing.
