Service Contracts with British Gas

British Gas, have some ridiculous pricing. They get away with murder at times. I run a plumbing company covering London and Surrey. The amount of clients that complain about british gas is shocking.
Find a good local plumbing company, who guarantee their work. It will save you a fortune.

I have dumped ALL my services with British Gas since they began reporting payment performance on my utilities to Experian. Something which I wholeheartedly disagree with.
I got shot of my Gas and Electric Supply and my Homecare 400 agreement and told them that was the reason.
However, the Homecare agreement was pretty naff anyway. On the occasions I used it:
It took 3 visits to change a ball valve in my toilet cistern. A job an independent plumber would have done in one visit and a reasonable cost. In fact I could have done the job myself but didn't because I paid for a contract. I live opposite a Plumb Center and the torbeck ball valve was in stock there for £19.99.
It took 7 visits to fix a problem with my boiler resetting. This resulted in no heating or hot water. One appointment the engineer never turned up. When they did eventually diagnose the problem I had to wait for the part to arrive and arrange another appointment for an "engineer" to fit it.
It took 2 visits to replace a Room Themostat. They replaced my faulty "digital" room stat with a cheap as chips "British Gas" branded rotary dial one costing buttons. I wrote to them on two occasions about it and my letters were never responded to. I changed their cheap stat myself back to a "digital" one. When I unscrewed the one the British Gas "engineer" installed he had not put the wiring in the screw terminals. Instead left the live (red) wire resting against the terminal. British Gas then have the temerity to hide behind the "you may get a cowboy" banner!!!!
One of my Thermostatic Rad Valves was faulty and replaced. The original Drayton TRV4 that was faulty was replaced with a cheap alternative. I replaced it myself with a Drayton TRV4.
Suffice to say I am well shot. I now have a service contract directly with Worcester Bosch (my boiler manufacturer) who come out quick and have parts already loaded on the van. I pay £148 a year which includes a service and any fault rectifying in between. Their phone number is a normal land line and you go straight through to an operator without the press 1, 2, 3 mullarkey with British Gas.
I have heard that they hide behinde the "sludge" excuse a lot. My neighbour two floors below was told she had algae in her radiators by a British Gas engineer and that wasn't covered either. An independent engineer found that there was actually nothing wrong.0
