my bill was paid late today but it is in credit.
unbeknownst to be, they blocked my account today.
they are refusing to let me cancel my account BECAUSE it is blocked ???
unless i unblock the account by giving my bank details to set up a direct debit, or pay two months upfront, i cannot cancel.
!!!!!! is all that about?

If you pay late, they take away your right to pay on open credit and insist on DD or an upfront deposit.
May seem harsh, but you have broken the terms of your contract by late payment, and they don't give you any leeway on this.No free lunch, and no free laptop

i don't want credit, i want to cancel! i don't actually owe them any money as my account is currently in credit. go figure!Proud to be Member of BSC #92Hoping to get debt free again :wall::heart2: working hard to make my daughters proud :heart2:0

I'd give them details for DD from bank accout (not card) once account is unblocked, cancel it, get the money they owe you (as you are in credit) and cancel dd before they can take anything.

Send an e-mail to jeremy.darroch@bskyb.com it goes through to customer service reps who can sort out all major issues and not front line cs0 -

Well you will need to be at least a month in credit to cancel, as you have to give a month's notice (assuming you are already OOC). Sky's logic, not mine!
So once you are paid up to 30 days ahead from the date you cancel, then they should unblock your account. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I don't have a problem paying the months notice but as i am not receiving any services from them, i am under no obligation to pay them any money. (as it says with consumer direct). If the account is blocked for more that 31 days, it is supposed to automatically cancel itself. Not sure if this is completley correct but i am seeking legal advice. (luckily, the bil is studying law at a very good law school.

The probelm is that once a service has been blocked,Sky's SMS system called Chordiant, wont let anything be done on the account until the money has cleared onto the account.
Because you paid late,it may be that Chordiant now wont let the viewing being reinstated or you to cancel until certain conditions have been met. (IE D/Debit set op ext)0 -
spike - that is exactly what happened.
mitchec1 - thanks for that. you are a total star. i sent an email as suggested and two hours later, i had a call saying that 'just this once' they woudl override (as i suspected they could) and reinstate my account. I thanks them for the help, reiterated i still wish to cancel and got a very remorseful apology. said if they sort out my final bill, i will pay immediately (which i did) and later received confirmation in writing my account is canceled as of 20th Nov.
I now have a freeview box that gives me most of the channels i need and saves me a fortune. there is only one channel i miss and that is missed on behalf of the baby, not myself so all in all, i am in a much better position now. last time i took a break, it was six months before they were offering me some cracking deals to sign back up with them. If i get one of those offers and times are good, i may go back but at teh moment, i am happy not worrying about another bill to pay.
