fobbed off by currys

im very new to this site infact i only joined today..im hoping somebody can help as u all seem very wise ;)

In Dec '07 i bought my son a flat screen tv from currys 19" goodmans.£159.00 it packed up in Feb 09 14 months after purchase, my son went to currys and they looked it up on there computer and he was told nothing they can do as the company doesn't exist anymore, we took it to a local tv repair and was told it would cost more to repair than to replace...i still have the tv but cant find the receipt as we have moved house twice since...do i still have rights to repair????

You may do. Your best bet is to contact the customer service centre via letter (or email, if you fancy).

They'll most likely ask you to get a report to confirm an inherent fault first.

That's a pretty rubbish response! I had a 21" Goodmans which lasted me 3 years at uni.

Someone who has more knowledge of the SoGA will be able to advise. I'm pretty sure you'll have to steak your claim with Currys as they're the ones you have the purchasing contract with...I've found them pretty 'interesting' to contact recently but until they take you seriously, they will fob you off!

I don't think you're going to be able to get very far with Curry's if you can't demonstrate to them that the TV was actually bought from them. You say you've lost the receipt but did you pay by credit card and have the credit card statement showing it ? Or is it a model that was only available from Currys ?

Despite what Curry's told you I think Goodmans are still around so perhaps they could comfirm if the particular model number was exclusive to Curry's or not.

    This is the correct answer.

You can expect an item to last 6 years under Uk law after the first 6 mouths it down to you as the customer to prove that fault has inherent to the item when it left the manufacture. Your contract is with curries from my understanding but I could wrong. I work in retail we've just had a new returns policy stateing that if we stock the item we are llegally required to allow a faulty item to be returned even without a recept.

    1. You need to get your TV repair bloke to write a report stating that the fault was part of manufacturing fault.
    2. Hopefully if you paid on card you should be able to get a print out.

Contact there complait department after you've done these two and they should move a lot quicker.

Before you go quoting SOGA or paying out for a report you do need some form of proof that you bought the item from Curries. Not necessary the receipt, a credit card/bank statement would suffice.

Go into a Currys store and tell them you need a dup;icate receipt for your home insurers, if you gave them your address (you normally do with a tv) they can normally locate the record and will print a receipt out. (You can do this at any currys so you can get a receipt from a different store if you want)
