ehallett wrote:I have found that mystery shopping has really added up over the last month. I know I won't get paid for all of it until next month but that would be ok for you if you got started straight away.
The ones that I have been working for mainly are:

http://www.tns-global.com
I would say the amount of work I have done and got lined up so far is worth well over £100.
Hope this helps, good luck with your target.

Womens' magazines are always after anecdotes and snippets of interesting articles, such as 'It happened to me' type tales. They pay handsomely for each one used, and it only costs a stamp to send off. The library has a book called Writers' and Artists' Yearbook, which lists all UK magazines and tells you the sort of things they're looking for. I've been writing fiction for womens' magazines for many years with much success - with one piece sold last week, and another article being published in a medical journal during the summer! It's 4 In The Morning :j0

Lots of good ideas there for generating income.
I'm not sure what ML thinks of zopa.co.uk but I deposited money there 6 months back and the return was terrible, I could put some savings into any instant access account and do better.
The point is, the rates for borrowers on zopa seem to be very good so they may be worth considering if you need to cover a shortfall.Tight fisted accountant since birth.0 -

((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Memory girl ....What about thinking of the £1000 as ten lots of £100 instead.
Then you need to come up with 10 ways to come up with £100 over the next two months.
Cutting food budget perhaps
Ebay your items
Amazon any books
Babysitting
Part time job
Car Boot
Spring clean your mates / families houses (I hated it - but they loved me doing it)
Diong ironing for the same
Rent a spare room
Walk to work
Cooking gourmet dinners in peoples houses
Organising kids parties
Helping organise someone elses non-MSE financial paperwork
Come on guys - there must be loads of cool ideas we can come up with that can get Miffi back on track.
Mind you as my Mum says "if you can pull a pint, type a letter and fry an egg you'll never be out of work"
You've got me thinking now :-)
Memorygirl))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Memorygirl...
I think this is a great idea to break it down......not as daunting at all.
It makes it all so much more managable.
Well done...something I shall remember and do when I have a target to reach0 -
Just an update regarding the mystery shopper applications, i've got my first one for grassroots tomorrow and had my new starter form & P46 from TNS through the post today!! They have been really quick with registering and getting me started so I think its a great idea for anyone looking for a bit of quick cash!!
Thanks to emily for posting the idea! x0 -
Miffi wrote:I am a bit concerned at the prospect of how much I'll be taxed, but it is worth a go and if the amount I'm taxed gets ridiculous I could always jak it in and get something else.
assuming the following it is relatively easy to work out roughly how much tax you will pay:
1- if you use all your tax allowance on your main job (if you pay tax on your main job you will most likely be using all your tax allowance)
then you will pay tax on all your second income
2- if all the money for the whole year from both jobs is less than £32k
then you are probably not in the 40% tax bracket so you will be taxed at 22%
3- you will pay some national insurance on the second income - not sure about this so please check.
personally i just deduct 25% from whatever the second job says it pays. for example bar work:
4 hours tuesday and 4 hours friday
8 hours at £5.75 = £46
deduct 25% leaves you with £34.50 a week
if you do that for a month (34.50 X 52 / 12) you will bring in £149.500 -
Two things:
Mystery shopping. You have to register as self employed and pay tax and NI on these jobs to be properly legal. A tenner gross for what works out as about two hours' work is rubbish.
Women's mags. It will cost you more than a stamp to sell your story. I work for one, and we need an hour or more of your time to tell the story, and another hour or so for pictures. Plus to earn good money like £500 plus you need a GREAT story, you have to be named and pictured, everyone in your story will have to be named and probably pictured too, and it takes a month AFTER PUBLICATION to get your money. You may wait a few months for it to be published.
Not to put a dampener on the idea, but it isn't quite as easy as send a letter in and get £500.
HOWEVER, the one I work for pays £60 for a tip, which IS just a letter, AND if you include a picture of you or someone else doing the tip INCLUDING THE FACE (v important) it is VERY likely to get used as most people send in pix of their hands but no face.
I can PM people the magazine and address if you want to do this. Just PM me.
I GET NO BENEFIT PERSONALLY FROM THIS AT ALL.
Still, if you do enough tips you'll be fine. One last hint - nothing involving vinegar or lemons!!!!!! We get those all the time. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
