Part of my debt is made up of £1,000 which I borrowed off a friend. They urgently need it back and my deadline to pay it is August. I know borrowing off friends is always a big mistake, but hindsight is a wonderful thing and doesn't help me now.
Okay, I can ebay some stuff but that wont bring in much, work don't offer overtime, what else? I suppose an extra job is it! Does anyone have any advice/tips about second jobs...if so, I'm all ears!
Sorry if this sounds rambly but my friend has just phoned me to tell me they need the money back and I was thrown into a panic and don't have anyone else to tell.
Thank you, don't know where I'd be sometimes without this site!

Well, if we could all find £1,000 that quickly I'm sure none of us would be in debt in the first place!
With regards to second jobs, what hours are you free and what experience do you have? Main problem would be the amount you are taxed!!Was debt free... then went travelling!0 -
What about thinking of the £1000 as ten lots of £100 instead.
Then you need to come up with 10 ways to come up with £100 over the next two months.
Cutting food budget perhaps
Ebay your items
Amazon any books
Babysitting
Part time job
Car Boot
Spring clean your mates / families houses (I hated it - but they loved me doing it)
Diong ironing for the same
Rent a spare room
Walk to work
Cooking gourmet dinners in peoples houses
Organising kids parties
Helping organise someone elses non-MSE financial paperwork
Come on guys - there must be loads of cool ideas we can come up with that can get Miffi back on track.
Mind you as my Mum says "if you can pull a pint, type a letter and fry an egg you'll never be out of work"
You've got me thinking now :-)

Hi Miffi,
I owed my dad money and although he was charging me no interest I had to pay him back first, there is no way you want to fall out over money!
I like memorygirl's idea of looking at it as ten lots of £100, much easier to break it down into smaller chunks! A couple of ideas, can you open one of the current accounts which offer you £50 for joining? Obviously you will have to reduce your payments to your other debts to the bare minimum and throw everything at this one. Do you have any cash in savings pots (are you a member of the £2/ 20p collectors? It really does build up quickly). As already mentioned, selling on ebay or car boot sales are a good way of raising money. Are you an animal person? People will be going off on holidays and weekend breaks and may need someone to come in and feed pets/ generally check their house is ok. Have you any waitressing experience? I used to work for a catering company in the summer, it's not too difficult, the money is good and you get to nose around people's weddings!
Let us know how you get on, maybe you can post a diary on this thread, the support of the people on here will get you through it! Good luck!Saving for an early retirement!0 -

I have found that mystery shopping has really added up over the last month. I know I won't get paid for all of it until next month but that would be ok for you if you got started straight away.
The ones that I have been working for mainly are:
http://www.grgresearch.com./
http://www.tns-global.com
I would say the amount of work I have done and got lined up so far is worth well over £100.
Hope this helps, good luck with your target.

Have you cleared out all your internet based cash pots ? Paypal, amazon? greasy palms? Quidco? Anything like that?
Where abouts in dorset are you- is bar work a possiblity? you can make 100 a week if you do weekends plus the tip jar if there is one. Also you might want to think about something like TGI fridays or Nandos? they both pay well and in the top 10 companies to work for in the UK. Also have you spoken to the job centre? thier website is rammed with part time work.
the other idea i had was is there any chance of taking some paid holiday from your normal job and go temping somewhere else for a week or two. Personally, thats borderline legally I think, but would be the first thing I would do if I was stuck for cash. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice it has really motivated me.
I am going to try the thing about breaking it down to 10 £100s which I think mentally is a lot easier for me.
I am going to contact some local business and see what part time work is available. I would be available weekends and to do stuff at home. I am a bit concerned at the prospect of how much I'll be taxed, but it is worth a go and if the amount I'm taxed gets ridiculous I could always jak it in and get something else.
I will let you all know how I get on...thanks and do let me know any more ideas you have!0
