I never got that either, until I lived there. Large cups are great for takeaway-you can fill them with ice (and soda) and keep them cool in the car for a long time

It's free refills in Canada too - the only problem in big cities was that it encouraged 'non paying' customers to rifle through the trash cans to get an empty cup - and take up for a refill. One that was close to the station I worked at, in the seediest part of town, would see all kinds rifling through trash cans looking for a coffee cup - the clientele of that MacD's was quite different in the early hours of a morning compared to the suburban ones! But - the homeless were always guaranteed a good hot cup of coffee when they were cold.
MacD's restaurant that was in the local Asda's had the soda fountains......I often wondered who, if eating in, would ever buy a large......but looking around the place, loads of people had larges!0 -

right i used to be a manager at a UK mcdonalds, and it is mcdonalds policy here that you get one free refill with every cup of coffee, if they refuse ask to see a manager, and ask why you cant have your refill (and state the policy).
its more likely that if someone looks at you funny its just knowone has ever asked them to do it before. it is policy but its not one they publicise for obvious reasons.
Very very interesting :T[STRIKE]30:22[/STRIKE]

Ikea also sell you the cup and give you free refills. To be honest though the actual drinks are so cheap it doesn't cost them anything. The soft drinks are just a syrup that has water and bubbles added and the actual drink costs about 0.01p. Its the cup, the staff costs to sell you the cup and the overheads for the resturant that cost the money.0

I currently work in maccies and have never heard of this lol. I know we have the stickers on the hot cups so if you buy 6 hot drinks you get 1 free. We have one woman who comes in every morning, goes through the bin and fishes out old cups for the stickers!0

Just to add that at the same time I posted my original message I also contacted McDonalds via a link on their website.
Surprise, surprise, I've had no reply---I guess they don't want to put their Company policy in writing:rolleyes:Waddle you do eh?0 -

Good for her
I keep my eye out on the streets, if I see one I pick it up, take the sticker and put the cup in the bin. Doing my bit for the environment and getting a reward!
And I agree that McDonalds coffee is better than Starbucks. I only ever get coffee when it's free (Guardian Starbucks vouchers, Metro McDonalds vouchers etc) and definitely prefer it when it's a free McDonalds!0
