MacDonalds---Free Coffee Refill, Or Not?

I hope someone can answer my question.
In the USA free refills with coffee in MacDonalds are standard.
I plucked up the courage and asked at two here that I visit and had different responses.
The first store immediately said yes while the second store looked at me as though I was mad and said they have never done that.
Does anyone have a definitive answer for the UK?
Thanks
Mods---if in wrong section please move as I wasn't too sure where to put this.

Hay daveoc22.. im a newbie on here but feel atlast i can do some good and actually help someone!!
Unfortunatly, i used to work there (...shame and embarasment!!! :embarasse )
the correct answer is that they ARE supposed to give free 'top ups' but not total refills. It also depends on who serves you, a moody person can just give a top up but if you were like me, i was always dishing out full refills!!
Hope this helps0 -
right i used to be a manager at a UK mcdonalds, and it is mcdonalds policy here that you get one free refill with every cup of coffee, if they refuse ask to see a manager, and ask why you cant have your refill (and state the policy).
its more likely that if someone looks at you funny its just knowone has ever asked them to do it before. it is policy but its not one they publicise for obvious reasons.0 -
mcd coffe is always too blimin' hot. i dont have time to drink two coffees after ive waited for the first to cool down.
ps whats the deal on soft drink refills? in the us the soda fountains are out in the restaurant and you can have free refills, ever see that happen here...nope thought not!0 -

Soft drink Free help yourself refills are all over the place in the USA, but they still offer you 3 different cup sizes and charge you accordingly.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -

In Hull they have the drinks machine out in the restaurant and you just pay for the cup
Not seen it anywhere else though“You’re only here for a short visit.

Thanks Rhys,
I thought that would be the case but of course with no written policy there is no way of insisting. Next time I'm refused I think I'll take your suggestion and speak to the Manager.
And to LeeSouthEast the reason I'm in McDonalds having coffee is that, in my personal opinion, it tastes better than Starbucks, Costa etc.Waddle you do eh?0 -
