Skype and 3 or not to 3? for FREE?

Hi there just a couple of queries on skype for mobile. There seems to be a free service for skype off windows based PC's and the iPhone, is this right or is skype free without internet contracts or having to pay for usage other than 3 ? For example vodaphone can add a service for £7.50 giving you 500mb of usage for various internet uses.
More confusing to boot is is skype Lite which seems pretty pointless in terms of FREE but good if you want cheaper mobile to landline or other mobile calls I understand? Just trying to find there rates on there page which is proving difficult but is it much cheaper to call landlines and mobiles through there service?
The best contract I can see regarding Skype calls is 3 who offer the application completely for free with windows messenger of which I am an avid user of both on my desktop PC. My partner was thinking of getting a skypephone along with me and possibly a relative. maybe getting the Sony Erricson(sp) or Skype S2 which I believe techincally speaking are similar and offer similar talktime and standbye time, no more than around the 30 minute mark between them.
Final question, would the phone company offer any kind of discount for 3 of us taking out a contract? Or any other phone companys offering such a fantastic price for FREE skype and internet. Best so far is A phone with 3 for £13.50 a month.
Regards
Alex

Are you aware that Skype on 3 only allows you to make Skype to Skype Calls.
You dont need to take out a contract.
"Pop a free SIM from 3 into your current mobile and make free Skype-to-Skype calls over the 3 network in the UK – no WiFi needed.
You'll also be able to see when your mates are online and send them free instant messages too.
All you need is a compatible, unlocked 3G phone. Check now to see if you can use your current mobile.
What's the catch? There isn't one. All this can be yours without ever needing to top-up, or sign any sort of contract."

Cheers mate. I was quite interested in getting the new skypephone and then of course I wouldn't need to top up as i'd have unlimited texts to other networks and enough minutes to call the people I need to. Have a 3 sim but I don't have a 3g phone... Will let you know how I get on though0
