Nokia 8800 on Vodafone
I am currently on Vodafone and want to do a upgrade to a Nokia 8800.
They are quoting me £250, I've threatened to leave but they wont budge. Would not mind but Ive not had an upgrade in 2 years.
Anyone got any tips how I can get a nokia 8800 cheaper than £250, wanted to pay £50 really

Other than looking for another deal with a different provider and bringing your PAC code with you, I don't see much you can do. The Nokia 8800 is very expensive, and upgrades are usually more expensive than a new deal anyway.
If you really want to stay with Voda, try explaining to them that you've kept your current contract a year longer than you had to, without upgrading or taking any discounts. If they still stick to their guns, well you might consider O2

The Nokia 8800 is a Nokia 6230i with a shiny cover, the metal part of it is the only difference. So if it's the spec your after just go for the 6230i.
Upgrades go off your monthly spend so if you pay £20 line rental but spend £70 on top each month = £90 a month, they would give you a better deal than someone paying £20 a month, but staying within their minutes so their bill is only £20 a month.
It doesn't matter how long you've been with them unfortunatley (it should) but it makes no difference at all.
I've been with Vodafone since 1997 and just got quoted £350 for a Nokia N80 upgrade, (thats the same price as a new customer on the lowest price plan), Because my bill is less than £20 a month.

Hi
I am with Vodafone and my contract ended in February 2006. I wanted the Sony W810i which was due to be released on 1st April 2006.
On the 1st, I called Vodafone and they promptly said it will cost £120. I at that point said 'Not to worry, I will stick my current handset' and hung up. I then checked the web for the cost of the W810i with O2 (£60) and also on Voda's website (£40); of course this was for new customers. I then called Voda back two days later and said I want the W810i and again they said £120. Advised them I have been with them for 3 years and surely existing customers should get the same offers as new. They didn't budge so I requested my PAC code. I was then of course directed to the Retentions Department which I expected and was then told they could do it for £80 OR £8 if I go onto the 18 month contract. Advised him that I am not releasing my 12 month contract and that I am willing to pay £40. I was told that could not be done so requested my PAC again, at this point he requested it on the system and said it will be with me in 3-5 days. I had no problems with this because I would have gone with O2.
I then received a call from a girl two days later asking why I wanted to leave. Told her that I am unhappy with the way a new customer gets a better deal than me. Told her the phone I wanted, and then she replied with 'We can give it to you for free'. I checked that it was the correct phone and that I can remain on my existing 12 month contract and she said 'Yes'. I accepted it there and then and received the phone two days later!
To cut a long story short, check the costs on the web with Voda and other suppliers. Call Voda up, be nice and calm and explain the situation. Other people I know call up and shout and they don't get anything.
Hope this helps0
