Help With Buyer Please!

I had a lot of items ending on ebay on Friday i had one in particular that decided to start bidding on loads of my items which i was a bit concerned about at the time.
This person only ended up winning 2 of the items a dvd for £1.50 + £1.50 p&p and a piece of underwear for 99p + £1.50 p&p
After my offered postage discount -50p for each additional item, she paid a total of £4.99.
I personally thought she got a bloody good bargain considering the dvd was brand new and is still selling in virgin for £19 and the underwear was still tagged and is still in ann summers for £24.99!
As she paid for both items together via paypal i sent peatly first class on saturday morning and the postage only came to 68p.

I ahve just logged into my ebay account where i have this message waiting.
Hi there,
Just thought i'd let you know that i receieved the items this morning.
Thanks, however i am most unimpressed with having to pay 2.50 for p&p when the packaging states that you paid only 68p. surely you can't be allowed to make a profit from p&p charges?

It was never my intention to make a profit from the p&p and after i had paid for all the packaging materials etc i probably havent made any profit from it.

She quite clearly saw the postage on the items before bidding and paid for them quite happily.

im not to sure how i should respond now

Any suggestions please!!

Tell them to bog off. P&P is exactly that. Did the post office spend time parcelling the items up? Did they collect them from your home at a time convenient to you? If she isn't happy.....tell her to **** off and use a shop next time. That way she can get her £43.99 worth, and feel good that she didn't get ripped off.....pmsl

Now if you were really nasty you could just neg her....guess you only do that if you get out of bed on the wrong side though!!
  • We all seem to be having buyer problems at the moment :rotfl: I would reply saying that the amount charged for P&P consisted of cost of postage, cost of packaging and cost of transport to and from post office and this was clearly stated on the listing. Thank you for your custom. I would then block her from ever buying from me again!

  • Perhaps let her know that of the £2.50 charged, yes 68p is postage but add to that the packaging, your time, perhaps the pay & display cost at car park nearest the post office, even the petrol to get there? etc etc.
  • how do you block individual users?[/QUOTE]

If you go to http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/block_bidders.html that should take you to the option.

Good luck with it all - we sellers certainly need it sometimes :D

I'm sorry but I disagree. Personally, I would have refunded her a little. I would have charged 68p plus 50p (or so) for the packaging and then refunded the difference.

Having said that though, if I had have received the items, I would have looked at the overall price including P&P. I'd done this in the past when I've paid £6 for postage for a bundle of clothes that actually only cost £2.50 to post. I had a huge bundle for £10 including postage. It annoyed me that I had been done with the postage, but the overall price was good.

I think if you clearly stated the postage method and that there was a certain amount reduction for multiple wins, then you should just write back to say, that she has only paid what was stated.

Big stores often charge a flat fee for delivery (which is nearly always more expensive than the actual postage) I'm sure she wouldn't be asking for refund from them?

    Best of luck.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to pass on your costs as part of the P&P. In my circumstances it is only feasible to drive to the post office and there I have to pay to park. Generally I'm only going there to post ebay stuff so incurr costs of £1 and over without the postage itself. I've had people complain before about £2 postage costing 68p but point that out and they're usually happy.

I wish people could be made to think more. It is post and packaging not just the postage costs...Yes some people do charge too much and some maybe not enough..but Post and Packaging is what is says normally......
