audi dealer garage has damaged my car - please help

ower assisted steering problems - please help hi I took my 95 a4 to audi for its mot and they replacaed the back exhaust

which then passed its mot

us

BUT then on drving out of the audi garage the steering was very heavy and making a loud sound

i had no probs when i drove it in earlier on in the day and never had any PAS oil leaks before

my question is - by the garage putting a new back exhaust thye have damaged the power assisted steeringt pipes - now causing the leak and steering probs

when i went back to them the next day = they sold me some power steering oil toped it up and a weeks later the car is not drivable due to the steering oil leaking out raidly every time i drive it

what are my rights? - im planning to go back but im sure they will fob me off

this was a main dealer garage as well...........

any help gratefully recieved

cheers steve

  • The back section of the exhaust only?

No, they probably haven't damaged it, but you'd have a hell of a time proving they did on a 14-year-old car.

First things first, find the leak. Oil is slippery, especially so when it comes into contact with your tyres.

No they have not done anything to your steering while replacing the back box they are opposite ends of the car.

Why are you taking a 14 year old car to a main dealer? find a local independent at half the cost.

Your power steering needs fixing because it is old! and for no other reason.

Yeah on a 95 Audi I'd expect issues like that. It's no doubt a coincidence it just started happening when it had been to Audi, unless they saw you coming and decided to "make" a fault to get you to come back and part with more of your money. Would be very hard to prove though.

I wouldn't be going to an Audi dealer to have work done on it anyway. If I was feeling generous I'd go find an independent company that calls themselves a VAG specialist.
  • main dealers arent interested in older cars like your. all you do is get rust all over thier clean workshop floors.tut tut.
i doubt they would have caused the leak, as others have said thing do break on car especially at the age of yours. find a good local independant,or a local audi specialist. they will do a better job on your car than the audi dealer.the guy that fitted the exhaust probably hadnt even started school when your audi was made!

(in no way is this a joke made at the age of your car, i love older cars)

but got their money back by selling you a back box. Probably at twice its value.

UPDATE went into the garage on today and the mechanic said that the PAS pipe went from the front to the back of the car!!-

and the SERVICE manager said there was a small chance of them accidently damaging the PAS pipes/system - thjis causing the leak when they replaced the back exhuast.

have got it booked for a free check next week so fingers crossed

not sorted yet but at least
It just goes to show that stick to your instincts even in these technical areas

  • Why would a PAs pipe got from the front to the back of the car when the steering rack is at the front, along with the PAs pump.................

Sounds like an attempt by audi to get more business once they have the car in.

"We've found the problem sir, we can fix it while we have the car here for a special price of £249"
