BT and Orange confusion

Hi,
My girlfriend recently moved into a new flat which already had a telephone line installed (but not activated).
After a bit of research we found out that BT offered free connection if you agree to an 18 month contract which requires you to make 30 calls a quarter.
She also wanted broadband and as she was an orange customer already, opted for the free broadband they offer.
She has just found out that in order to get orange free broadband her calls must also go through orange, if that is the case then wont BT charge £6.80 a month for not making chargable calls or will the calls via orange still count towards the chargable call requirement ?

The calls need to be made through the BT network to be counted towards the call requirement to avoid the £6.80 charge.
