F,
Are you central? What sort of restaurant I like Sweet Mandarin (recentely won Gordon Ramsays best local Chinese on the F word). Love the bars in the Northern Quarter but food not all that. Like the italian San Carlo on King Street very popular with celebs and pretentious but I like that!! Love star spotting and being cheesy.
The modern in the Urbis lovely.
I will rack my brains if you let me know where you are near and what you like ect??

Depending on what you like:
Little yang sing in china town is a nice chinese.
San Carlo has a fantastic reputation - not my thing but the likes of the England team, man utd etc do go in there a lot.
A Nice place to drink is Lime bar (near the town hall and not too far from China town) and they have a club downstairs called...Sub Lime.
For places to go on NYE you used to struggle but credit crunch and rip of taxis mean you will probably get in most places on the night now without having to buy tickets in advance.
There is also a restarant opposite it - i forget the name but that has a good reputation.
Back to NYE
Walkabout - should be busy and a fiver in. Cheesy alright night.
Lime/Sublime - Not sure on cost but nice cool bar
Bar 38 similar to lime bar.
Label/Moon Under Water/Slug & Lettuce, 3 bars/pubs on deansgate all next to eachother - Moon under is a weatherspoons. I imagine that little area will be busy, nice and free or cheap entry.
If your after a late one try Deansgate Locks or the Printworks. Both have a mixture of bars and clubs and should be open till 3-4ish.

Just wanted to add my twopenneth about restaurants. Might not be your kinda thing but we love it, Its called Koreana. Its on King Street West just off Deansgate down the side of Kendals erm sorry House of Frazer. They do Korean food and its absolutely fantastic. I'd consider it moderately priced but the service is excellent. http://www.avau33.dsl.pipex.com/
And i can say without a doubt noone beats they're Dumplings (Gyoza). I even make a 50 min roundtrip just for takeouts.

Also on Kings Street West is Bem Brasil which my mum loves.
As Mrs Jeff says, it depends on where you're going to be based and what you like eating/doing. NYE: everywhere's likely to be busy, so if you find somewhere you particularly want to spend NYE then do book. If you're not overly bothered, take a wander on the evening and join the queue wherever takes your fancy0 -
Restaurant suggestions:-
- Bem Brasil (lots of meat!)
- Grill on the Alley
- San Carlo (italian)
- Akbars (Indian)
- Room
- New Samsi (Japanese)
- Wings (chinese)
For New Years Eve ideas take a look here:-

thanks for all the suggestions keep them coming.
Thinking of modern food for new years eve, possibly a place that will have good celebrations so we dont have to move.

Yes, its quite central about 10 mins walk to the shops etc.
How about Harvey Nichols for NYE (it won't be cheap) - we did it a couple of years ago and it was great! Think it was 8 course gala dinner, glass of champers, disco, etc , approx £90 a head .
Edited to add, Just had a look for you - they are doing a package with a 5 course meal and glass of champers, entertainment, then ride on the big wheel at midnight with another glass of bubbly. £80 each.

Not sure how to quote but Ems! above quote I know is a bit dear but for harvey nichols on NYE with champers and a ride on wheel I think is good. We had afternoon tea last week with champange and it was £40?? I bet they will really spoil you too. Very jealous.
Let us know what you decide
