By sheer coincidence on a totally different topic, I've just received an email that recommends these (not actually something I was looking for so I don't know what they're like, but take a look...):

I've just had a mailshot from the hosting company i use,
they will design you a three page site for free when you take up one of their hosting plans. The basic one is £30 per year.

I usually but my domains from 123 Reg and not had any problems with that at all. There a million and 1 hosting companies out there so try and choose one with a good track record and customer testimonials. (ask about uptime, SLA, where the servers are based and bandwidth) As for web design, I have had a few sites designed by https://www.designr.co.uk/web You are proberly looking around the £150 for a basic 3 page site. You will also need a "Thank you" page if you want a contact form on your site.

    All the best

How much it will cost is the same as asking how long a piece of string is.

As with most things in life you get what you pay for. Anyone with a small amount of computer skills can download a free WYSIWYG editor (or illegally obtain a copy of non-free ones) and immediately claim to be a web designer/ developer... they can even use free templates so all they are really doing is filling in the blanks.

A good designer will do so much more than actually just putting your words into a template. Search engine optimisation, site security, speed optimisation, cross browser compatibility.

For many people these days their website is now their "shop" and only real visible presense to the outside world. It is surprising how many companies only want the cheapest possible without realising the false economy of this and yet the same people would not even consider going for a physical premises simply because it was the cheapest

It depends on how stylish or complicated you want it to be. I know the guy who built https://www.georgegarnier.com and https://www.ublam.com (my website) . If you want I can give you his email address, he's a very skilled student and can probably get it done for you for a low price.

Hosting is around £20 a year from GoDaddy, including a domain name. (Or was when I last checked)

Design could be done yourself, or you could get a designer to knock you something up cheaply. <post edited to comply with statment above/below>
