Seller won't give me refund!

I ordered some jewellery from an online site and upon receipt I realised I had ordered the wrong thing. They don't actually stock what I need so I asked if I could send it back for a refund. This is the reply I just got....
Sorry, we cannot refund items but are happy to exchange them.

Returns
Goods are not sold on a trial basis, that is to say, goods may not be ordered and viewed and then returned because the pieces are not liked or a purchasing error has been made.
Please note that the prices of the goods sold by ** fluctuate with the financial markets and, as a result, our products are exempt from Distance Selling Regulations that stipulate that customers have the right to return goods for a refund within seven days of receipt. The return of goods is at our discretion and is product dependant.
Whilst we make every effort to assist customers with purchasing errors by arranging exchanges, all postage costs for such exchanges must be covered by the customer. Please note that most exchange requests result from customers not accessing the full product description for an individual product.
This doesn't seem fair! Is there anything I can come back at them with?

Unless you can prove that they should conform to the DSR (without knowing what you bought or what they sell in more detail, it's hard to judge whether their statement of exemption is actually true), or that these Ts and Cs weren't available when you made your purchase, I would think probably not. If you don't think that they should be exempt from the DSR, then it might be worth checking with consumer direct as to where you stand with that.0

It sounds like utter rubbish to me, try contacting consumer direct. How often do their prices "fluctuate"?
I'm assuming it's a piece of generic jewllery and not something made especially for you.0 -
What jewellery was it?
For example, if it was earrings then they may be able to exempt them from the DSRs on the grounds of hygiene, I think (although someone more in the know than me may be able to confirm this). Alternatively if the jewellery (whatever it is) was custom made for you then it may be exempted on those grounds as well.

What site is it?If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Smells fishy to me....0

This is the number for consumer direct 08454 04 05 06
I'd give them a call before you proceed, generally they are really helpful. Or try the trading standards website, pop in your post code and you'll get a more direct number.
If you have purchased earrings then generally you would not be allowed a refund due to hygiene reasons. However, I'm not sure how this stands for online purchases!
Good luck!0 -
Yes that's the site, I didn't know if I was allowed to mention it here. I bought 5 sterling silver keyring findings ( I make jewellery). It only came to about £17 but its a lot of money to me as I'm just starting out with my business.0

A little Googling makes me think it's probably this one
Well if that is the site they obviously get a lot of unhappy customers

Is it a wholesale website as I don't think the DSR's apply to business to business transactions?0
