Well, I just sent a strongly worded email enquiry to TRU asking them to justify their extortionate postage costings to supposed "remote" areas. I will let you know if I receive a response

TRU's response to my email just arrived and is pathetic.
Dear Mrs xxxxx,
Thank you for your recent email.
We have an additional delivery charge for orders going to certain postcodes in the UK, which some of our couriers classify as remote or rural.
We feel that it would not be fair for customers that live outside of these areas to have to fully subsidise these charges, and have therefore opted for a tiered delivery charging system.
In an effort to offer great value to our customers, we do not charge extra for the delivery of large or heavy products and have free standard delivery on orders over £150.
Full details on our delivery charges can be found in link below.

Should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Kind regards,
I think I will reply again with an even harsher email than the original onePlease remember to thank fellow MSE'rs :beer:0 -

How do u do the stock checker alert thing???0

thought it was a time for a timely reminder.
each year there is "must have" toy that is out of stock and each year you will get some con artists who will attempt to claim they have stock and take orders for toys they claim is "in stock". Come xmas day you have no toy and loads of fun and games to get your money back.
make some simple checks :-
1) check the website domain here
http://whois.domaintools.com/
to see when it was registered , if its only been registered in the last month or so or is registered outside the UK then avoid.
2) even if the domain is registered a while ago carefully look at the site , does it look cheap and nasty ?? does it only take paypal , is it full of spelling mistakes. There should be a real contact telephone number , not a mobile, and an address for contact according to distance selling regulations.Check any addresses on google to make sure they are not for a newsagents or a virtual office for mail drop.Ask yourself how a small website gets stock when all the big web sites have none.
3) be wary of sending money to people on gumtree who claim to have them available
stock often has a habit of magically arriving in all the big stores the week before xmas
That's great advice, but if I could add/clarify a couple of points.
1. My stockchecker site is a bit cheap and nasty looking (first to admit it)... but I am taking no money. I have thrown a stockchecking service together to help you find where stock is being sold NOW. It is the sites actually taking money that you need to approach with caution, look for contact details etc..
2. It is EXTREMELY unlikely that stock will appear for most Go Go items in the week before Christmas. The next big consignment is hamsters ... and maybe, just maybe we are approaching a Christmas saturation of those now. Anything else will be virtually impossible ... I don't like the false hope that may come from past years. You can only buy what will be delivered .. and there are no more deliveries anticipated until 18th Dec (only beds & carriers).
All that said, an excellent guide to avoiding being fleeced.
Now where's that shopping cart software and remind me ... what countries don't we have an extradition treaty with? :beer:0
