I am on Virgin broadband and there is no contract check this link http://www.virgin.net/internetaccess/broadband/?buspart=296
Sure there are others but I have always found Virgin to be good.

via the £50 you have to pay if you leave within 12 months

.... you probably will have a hard time finding something that isn't to similar with short time contracts, unless you pay setup

Newnet are monthly, as are others but you do have to pay the BT connection charge, which basically is what you do with Virgin.

Virgin changed their T & C's last year just as I was about to join. Customers were joining for the free set-up, modem etc and then cancelling, so now you have to pay a fee if you leave within the first 12 months. I trawled all the ISP's and all the short term contract people charge a connection fee. One of the lowest cost ones was:

Again, freedom2surf, 3 month contract then monthly rolling contract after that if you choose the £19.99 HOME package. No activation fee if you keep package for 3 months.
