Your right ICATQ, he now thinks catering wouldnt be a bad idea. Were gonna look for a civilian career while he trains and gets fit (as its a toss up between RAF and bailiff at the mo, strange choice I know) and then if no joy by then he will join up :-D
Thanks guysThe will to save every money saving penny we can0 -
Whatever course of action he settles on - good luck !!0

RAFP are overmanned....join the RMP0

hes probably better in the army more choice.....rmp would be best or soldiering with raf regiment. Otherwise he should go back to college and retrain completely or specials in police. The police like ex service men but still need 5 gcses i believe. you need to be fit for raf regiment and raf police and rmp to get through training at least.0

This is just my opinion, but
As a wife and Mummy I'm not sure I'd be happy with my OH in RAF regiment - at some point he might have to spend 6 months on the ground in a war zone - I find it hard when my OH goes away and like others spend a lot of time holding my breath and willing him to be safe, but knowing he was actually out on the ground all the time would be very hard for me.
Sorry if I seem negative, but I think you need to be aware of all possible scenarios.
Good Luck.0 -
Think you will find that there are a considerable number of RAF Police and RMP 'on the ground' too. Along with alot of other 'trades'.
Its what we do.0 -
I agree, it is 'What we do" my OH is not RAF regiment, but he has been in a war zone on more than one occasion. I think someone who has a member of the family intent on joining up needs to understand the ramifications of a military career - they may not get a cushy posting a short distance away from the family home. It does involve time away from the family maybe in a dangerous place.
Fliss M it might be worthwhile him trying the RAF and Naval reserves or TA as another option. As a part timer he would stay at home, but still get a taste for the military and can do detachments if he chose to do so. Daily pay when on duty is comparable to regulars, and it will stand him in good stead if he should choose to become full time.0 -

I am sure they are aware of the ramifications of a military career, hardly a day goes by without Afghan being mentioned, usually in a negative way, despite all the good stuff that is being donw there.
Your statement about the reserves or TA being a safe option is wrong. There are large numbers of TA and Reserves in Afghan and elsewhere.0 -
ICATQ
You must have misunderstood my post.
I didn't say it was a safe option merely ANOTHER alternative option, maybe suitable for someone considering a military career but unsure as to whether to take the plunge or not.- A 'try before you buy option' if you like.
I am well aware that there are TA and Reserves out in war zones too, but they have a lot more of a choice as to where and when they go as opposed to regulars who get very little choice, if any.0
