Tumble dryers, washer/dryers, what to go for?

  • ok... this is what i think:

washing machine - get one with automatic half load - i just bought one and you don't even have to think about pressing the button to save money.

tumble dryer - we are a three person house and my lodger constantly used it for just a t-shirt so i put it in the shed. i do not plan on putting it into use again unless we have such bad weather that it is not viable to dry on radiators - i have a dehumidifier which i run daily because we all like hot steamy showers and this also reduces condensation from having washing on radiator airers - it is also safer and more economical than the tumble dryer. just be organised and bung work clothes in the wash on friday night / sat morning.

washer/dryers - used my friends when i was there for a month when they went to canada - didn't wash or dry my clothes well and EVERYTHING needed ironing!

dishwasher - invaluable - even if there are only two of you - if you don't like washing up bung it all in - far more hygenic than leaving stuff in washing up bowl.

I had space for two appliances .I opted for the dishwasher and the washer/dryer .

If it's a choice between dishwasher and a tumble dryer then the dishwasher wins hands down in my opinion.

Even so, I still wouldn't go for a washer/dryer combo. I'd rather use a clothes-horse in front of a radiator.

    Simple analogy regarding this:

Rememeber one machine is trying to two completely opposite jobs, Wash and dry. I will leave it up to you to decide on this one ;o)

Get a seperate washing machine and tumble dryer, believe me from experience, single machines will give you hassle with regards to reliability.

Only two of you and you want a dishwasher, what are your two pairs of hands for? Again your going to need loads of plates to fill it up for it to be economical. USe the space for your recycling.

I know the dishwasher isn't essential, like I say was just thinking about the empty space, I guess it doesn't matter tho like you say something can always fit there!
Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!
  • Since you've got the room for both, go for separates . I haven't got room so have a combined washer/dryer as there's only me and the dryer is only used rarely. Had it over 10 years and it's still working fine, never had any problems with it.
