Congratulations on making a start to getting out of Debt Caf - I know I am mostly a lurker here but I have been there, got the T Shirt etc:rolleyes:

One thing that helped me to keep track of supermarket spending was to make a menu for the week and compile a list of groceries from that. Stick with the list and you will reduce your supermarket bill considerably. Try to only go once per week as well. You never end up buying just the think you popped in to get:rolleyes:

    Good luck:T

    Thanks Magnolia,

I must admit since Tesco is so close to where we live, I've often thought I didnt "need" to meal plan as I could go out to tesco each evening and get it in.

However as we can all now see, I NEED to meal plan :)

Meal plans are good things. If you plan your fav meals then you always have something to look forward to. I used to make a stew out of 1lb of mince and plenty of veggies. I would get 3 days out of the same 1lb of mince so it can go far.

A very tasty and quick meal is one of them cheap tins of stewed steak from Aldi or Netto. Add some sliced onion to it and cook it, then pour it over some pasta. A tin will cover a whole pack of pasta so you can have some left over for lunch the next day or if you like pack it into a container and freeze it.

Oh and while we are on about stretching a quid (Tight Yorkshire gal here) Baking a cake for a birthday is much more frugal and more personal ;)

Unless you get a Tesco finest toffee cake reduced to 82p.......
I was just trying to account for where some of my money goes with the tale of the bday cake.
Plus I'd already baked one! And eaten............... one!

Dinner currently being created from freezer contents.........

Am wondering what to make for work lunch tomorrow.
I've got a pack of 6 mini naans, that will need using fairly soon. No cold meats etc, got some cheese, and pepperoni left from pizzas made yesterday....... now I wonder...............

OOooops - I Know where your coming from on this front - even Tesco's finest cannot beat a good bit of home baking ;)

I am not picking on you hunni - just making a point about the cost of a ready made and a home baked.

    aww shucks I know that!
but 83p seemed a good idea at the time, since I already wasted enough time making the 1st cake for him, I was damned if I was making that much effort again :)

But you're right, my cake beat Tesco hands down ;)

You can make them before hand and just nuke them for 30 seconds and the cheese will melt all over the pepperoni - mmmmmmmmm Sounds so good I might have to have it myself ;)

And your right about the 83p cake - any self respecting Yorkshire lass would have done the same ;)
