Bailiffs refused an interim amount

Basically cutting a long story short, I got hit with a couple of parking fines on my partners car about a year ago but forgot to pay them, we had a bailiff come around a few weeks back where i tried to call him as we werent in but he didnt answer, I left a message for him to call me back but he didnt.

THey came around this morning with a truck when my partner was in saying she had to pay otherwise they were going to take away her car. She offered £250 which they refused stating it wouldnt cover a quarter of it and in the end accepted £500 where she had to go into her birthday card to take money out of it.

GIven £250 isnt a stupid amount, I thought they have to be willing to accept a decent amount?

How do i progress forward with the people I owe the fines to and the conduct of the bailiff as I am really annoyed that we had no reminder letters, just the bailiff a year later from something I just genuinely forgot.

as I am really annoyed that we had no reminder letters,

Are you saying you didn't receive --

    Notice to Owner

    Charge Certificate

    Order for Recovery

    ???????????

I don't think the bailiffs are required to accept instalments. they are carrying a Court warrant.

After that period of time, if accurate, the warrant may be out of date?

Best source of general advice is 'bailiffadviceonline'.

I have reviewed that source and concur fully.
  • Ok I understand my error, I am REALLY bad at organising and it got lost in a drawer of my old company.
My partner sent through the paperwork. It was collect services and the breakdown of fees are as follows

    PCNs - £320
    Court Fee -£20
    Bailiff Charges - £939.37
    Total - 1279.37

Now surely thats illegal what the are charging, it is completely extortionate!!

Refer to the resource mentioned above.

Many bailiffs do make apparent mistakes with their charging despite there being well known amounts.

Hang on. Who were the original (so called) PCNs from???

The amounts you quote at each stage bear no relation to PCNs legitimately issued by Councils.

    - and why have you not answered the question about various documents?
  • Basically, no we didnt get any notifications. The first we heard was a few weeks ago when a letter was put through the letterbox by a bailiff and I tried calling them afterwards but noone answered or called back. This is the second notice from them we have received, from the sounds on another website, it looks like they are throwing charges on each PCN rather than as a single charge which is what theyshould be doing

    them them they they

That's ok. You just keep ignoring the questions and it will help you immensely.

Do you want help or not?

If this really is via a Council then, in view of some of what you have said, there is something you can do.
  • Hang on, I thought I was answering the questions. I am sorry if I seem vague, its really not intentional

I beleive the PCNs are from Dacorum council given they all start with DC.
The PCNs are for 4 tickets

We had received no letters, just 2 bailiff visits, the second of which was this morning, the first, i called them back and got no response or reply

    a couple of parking fines

Yeah, that's four! Hence why the amounts did not tally.

    Back later.
