Just ported from Virgin to Orange everything OK - I can now get a signal anywhere !!

However, on call register I seem to have lost recieved calls and missed calls, also when someone phones from my contacts list they do not show up on the screen (Pete or Dave for instance) just an unknown number.

Guess I need to adjust the phone in some way, any ideas................

i would guess that you had saved dome of the contacts to the old sim rather than the phone memory.
put the old sim back in and copy to phone memory

The call records stored on the phone, for most handphone models I've seen, will be reset every time a SIM different from the one inside it during the last time it was on is inserted. There's no way to recover those.

Regarding your contacts list problem, it sounds like the caller already exists on your contact list but isn't being identified properly. It may be that the caller ID from Orange is different from Virgin's - just overwrite the contacts accordingly and you should be fine.

Sometimes the phone will discriminate between identical numbers with or without the +44 prefix (which is present on text message originator numbers) - putting the prefix on will usually solve this.

The nokia 7250i has the option to display sim contacts only, phone contacts only and sim & phone contacts. So if your contacts are saved on your sim and you have 'phone contacts only' selected no number from your phone book will display when they are calling you.

Missing menus and no incoming CLI bears all the hallmarks of unreceived or unactioned 'SIM Updates' or 'Orange Update' as they are now called.

If you have received any of these messages since starting using your new Orange SIM card, you need to have read them, deleted them and switched the phone off and then back on again - this last step is very important, without power-cycling the phone, the updates won't take effect and the menus and CLI will still be missing.

If you haven't had the Orange Update text messages, then you will need to call Orange customer services and tell them. The technical name is 'Orange Message Update' and they can send them out if you tell them that you have menu missing/no incoming CLI.
