Damn paypal echeques!!!

I just sold something today on ebay for £30, the buyer sent a paypal echeque and it says it will clear on May 31 2006. I will be going on holiday from May 25 to June 5 and I would have wanted to dispatch it tomorrow via special delivery and get it out of the !!!!!! way, but no, the buyer had to send a damn echeque!
Also, the buyer has an unconfirmed address!

What should I do?

I would e-mail them...first of all making sure they know they actually sent an e-cheque. Then I would tell them about your situation regarding clearance and the fact you'll be on holiday at this time....

Dependant on what sort of response you get you could ask them to send the payment again via PayPal, in the usual instant way or ask them to pay using another method.

echeques are a pain in the neck, I have just received one from a buyer for an item that was £5 and it won't clear until next wednesday at the earliest.

Echeques have been taking ages to clear as well, days past their ECD. They can be blocked by resetting your seller preferences in paypal, but as I get a few I haven't resorted to that yet.

Sometimes, if you buy a lot on ebay, paypal will only allow you to send an echeque. I hate them as well - from a buyers point of view they're slower that a normal cheque.

I received an e-cheque on eBay a few weeks ago which never actually cleared. Because I hadn't heard anything by the expected clearance date, I checked my PayPal account and found the e-cheque had been cancelled! I contacted the buyer (who had 100% +ve feedback) and she assured me she hadn't cancelled it and immediately sent me a cheque by post.

I have echeques blocked - they are a pain. Never had a complaint from a buyer in 200+ transactions so I'm happy...

I have had a few and never had a problem with them (apart from the longgggg time to clear). If this was my dillema I think I would run the risk and post the item out the day before you go on holiday the Saturday.

Its a risk...and only you can decide if its worth taking. Post it second class as well or possibly Royal Mail parcels (no tracking though!!) that would take a few days to get there.
  • Last one I got I emailed the seller to advise it would likely be 3 weeks before clear. They decided to cancel the echeque and sent a regular cheque instead! I was happy as it saved paypal fees!:D

The buyer emailed me and said that he is aware that it would take long to clear the payment, and that he didn't mind waiting for me to dispatch. He even said have a nice holiday! :D

tell the buyer ur situation and say that you will post it after your return from ur holiday! i'm sure that 5 extra days would not really matter..cos the buyer did send a echeque plus its over the bank holiday which would take even longer! (which takes time anyway, seems that this person has patients anyway)
