  • I've had one of these too, but how did the IR get my email address i wonder! I have never given it to them. I think this si a scam, playing on the mess of the PAYE system, but i'm not sure, which is why i searched for others who may have received thie email too. If i find anything out, i'll post. Can you do the same?

Just reading the thread and then deleting the Email will be simpler?

HMRC do not issue Emails in general - and certainly not for refunds. Can't be put clearer than that - as already posted in other replies!

IR (I presume you mean Inland Revenue, which ceased to exist at least 5 years ago) have not got your email address

From experience it is either russian, chinese or brazilian fraudsters who have your address. if as you say you have never given HMRC you address then its a scam,

delete the email, or forward it to phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk

  • Would HMRC really be as colloquial as using "don't" and "you'll" etc in official letters?! I am not that casual in emails to colleagues!

Do people really still fall for rubbish like that?

Curly, that is a genuine email.

Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place
  • Just realised that this is an old tread. Anyway, the same thing is going around again. It made my chuckle how bad this attempt was. So many spelling mistakes! Nobody would fall this phishing attempt, surely.
