Be very wary of this......and I'm not just referring to using one of these agents who promises a refund. Some of these scam e-mails can be dangerous http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/security/examples.htm
  • This lot are still at it, just had an email (today 26 Feb 2010). I wonder how they make their money !

They ask for bank/credit card details to deposit the 'refund' into.

HMRC will NEVER discuss your tax affairs with you via email.
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place
  • Got one as well yesterday? For £120, its a scam right?

I thought you were a "Long time reader" and would be able to answer that one without any trouble.

Just wanted to say that DD phoned tax office this afternoon and recieved a phishing email this evening. Strange coincidence!
Luckily she thought it was suspicious being asked to enter her bank card details for refund.
Incidently phishing email stated an amount similar to the one she is expecting
