Liz Earle New Perfume

I know there are quite a few Liz Earle fans on this board, so I thought I would post my opinion on her new perfume, which I was desperate to get hold of when I heard about it. I love Liz Earle products and the way they smell, so I was really excited about this perfume.

It arrived today, and I have to say I am SO disappointed. I know perfume is a very personal thing, and different scents work for different people, but this is nothing like I expected. I hoped it would smell fresh and uplifting, like her toner or bodywashes. But it is very musky and cloying - I sprayed just a tiny amount but found the smell unbearable, it started to make me feel sick and I had to repeatedly try to wash it off and get rid of it.

Obviously I'm very disappointed that I've paid £40 for something I won't be able to use and I think it's a real shame that Liz Earle are not offering the opportunity of buying a smaller sample.

There are some positive reviews of the perfume on the website, but beware if you are thinking of buying this. I would be interested to know if anyone else has tried it and likes it.

I keep getting emails advertising this but wanted to know what it was like, i notice you can't even buy a small sample of this, alot of perfumes are too heavy and give me a headache. I was hoping it would smell like her products which i love, glad you have posted your view, it doesn't sound like something i will like. Can you not return it? there customer service is very good, although i've never had to return anything, can you not say its bought you out in a rash? you could always ebay and get something for it.
  • FWIW - I just happened to be on a day trip to Ryde on Monday and tried it out in the shop there - I love it, it's a perfume, not eau de toilette so just the tiniest spray was very powerful - I wasn't sure at first but following what I was taught I didn't rub it and let it develop and after about 15 mins loved the smell of it on me. It was unlike anything I've ever tried because I could still smell it the next morning, most testers are long gone by then. Hubby wouldn't let me get some so if Santa doesn't bring me a bottle there's going to be one-mega tantrum in my house this Xmas :)

I too was hoping it would smell like her products, but it's completely different IMO. For me, it is definitely the sort of smell that would induce a headache, but obviously it will smell different on different people. I've tried to wash it off, but my OH has been turning his nose up at me all evening and telling me I smell like old granny  so I will definitely not be trying it again!!!

I might try contacting customer services and see what they say, but as I've opened the packaging I'm not sure if I'll be able to return it.

Glad you like it Nappentass, and judging from some of the press articles on the website, you're not the only one who rates it. It's amazing how different perfumes smell on different people, I am just SO cheesed off that this smells rubbish on me, as I had really high hopes!

Well if they won't maybe a quick PM to Nappentass is in order :D

Remember when "Charlie" was so fashionable? I was given a bottle much to my delight but so disappointed when it smelt like old drains on me. Chanel No5 is no better either.
  • I won a free sample of this and tried it at the weekend. It almost made me sick to begin with, it did improve slightly but not enough to stop me throwing it out. Their customer services are excellent and when I emailed them to tell them the moisturiser I ordered wasn't agreeing with my skin, they sent me a freepost envelope to send it back in, even though I had already opened it (they said that didn't matter) so I would email them and see what they say.

Its eau de perfume not parfum which has the highest oil to alcohol content. Perfume comes in edc, edt, edp and parfum. Edp is usually 80% alcohol to 20% fragrance oils.

Perfume never never never buy without testing it first.
You read the notes and decide what you think it will smell like but your skin type etc plays a really bit part in it all.

LE would have been so much better sending out scratch and sniff cards. Saved disappointment and buying unsuitable product.

    Send it back.

I read somewhere (possibly on Liz's Facebook group?) that the samples weren't yet available when the perfume was launched but that from mid-October there will be a free 2ml sample sent out with every Liz Earle purchase.

(Also, they have a QVC TSV coming up this Saturday - I wonder if they'll stick a 2ml sample in that, too?)

I wouldn't buy a full size bottle without trying it first - especially because Liz's other products range in my opinion from "yummy smelling" to "bleurch"...

The TSV details are up on st.com, no samples of the perfume in it. The TSVs are usually decided months ahead anyway content wise.

LE facebook said November for samples in with orders.

They not only emailed me regarding this perfume, but sent a letter and card throught the post. I was smelling the card to try and get the scent as it was like the ones you get in magazines. Nothing. Lol, the card wasn't even scented. I thought why would I buy a perfume without being able to smell it first. It seemed a waste of paper.

Anyway, can someone describe what it smells like?
