cheap city break August Bank Holiday

I haven't been away without kids in the eleven years since the oldest was born.

Just before I fell pregnant with him oh and I had been backpacking in Morocco.

My parents are minding all three kids for a fortnight in August. Oh and I will be working, but have the August bank holiday weekend off. We'd really like to go away for that weekend. Could possibly miss work on the friday 25th but no more than that.

Would like to go somewhere interesting (Prague and Barcelona spring rather obviously to mind) but most importantly cheap as we really have no spare cash for a break.

We could fly from Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Doncaster Sheffield, East Midlands or Liverpool.

We don't want to go to Ireland as that's where my parents are from, we go loads anyway and that's where the kids will be.

Other than that I'm open to any CHEAP suggestion. Can anyone help?

Searching on lastminute.com for the bh dates comes in at around £400 for flight and b and b for Prague. We could spend that but really want to spend as little as possible so I was really hoping that someone could undercut that sort of amount.

Thanks - all of these are really useful.

Have been to Paris quite a bit and not sure about Berlin but fancy any of the three Italian cities. Would probably choose Rome myself but I bet when I refer to oh he'll say Milan as it's cheaper. Waiting for him to come in now so I can start a "discussion".

Only thing I wonder is if the spending money for Italy would be so much more than for Prague that it doesn't actually save money on the £400ish I could get as a package for Prague. Anyone know?

Also veering a bit towards Amsterdam. Went there quite a lot as a student but OH has just been there for a week for work and seemed to see quite a different city to what we did then in his odd bits of free time. He won't want to go again but he let me down majorly by not going to the Oilily factory shop despite the fact that I sent him lots of helpful emails about what to buy. Has anyone been there or know if it's any good? Actually that's such an obscure question I might just post it as a separate thread!
