Does this credit check sound normal to you?

I've recently applied for an iPhone and have been asked to give more info for a credit check - presumably because I've recently moved house. They want the expiry date of my passport, and the all the characters from the bottom line of my passport; and then my credit/ debit card details again for verification of my address.
I am being hyper-suspicious here! Can anyone reassure me that I've not accidentally stumbled into a fraudulent company posing as O2 (clearly am watching too much TV!)
Thanks in advance!
