PC keeps losing internet connection UPDATED

    when you have lost internet connection , does software like msn or skype work ?

  • I try to avoid MSn, so haven't tried sorry :), but Norton can't get through to symantec servers either.

    well try msn when you have the said problem. Cause I have a similar problem of the browsers stop loading pages but msn ,skype still work fine. Its a memory leak in the browsers thats causes it but noone seems to have a fix

  • The memory leak you speak of, Dave can that just appear from nowhere?
    I've had no problems with this pc before now.

    well the solutions are to uninstall firefox apps that I never had, uninstall Norton which I never had, there seems to be something about Vista that is randomly self destructive,

    Oh, and when it's not working there is no red X on the connection icon (that's what I meant by windows doesn't notice the disconnection).
    .. and if you hover the cursor over it what does the text say? I'd expect it to say limited or no connectivity indicating it no longer has an IP (probably because the lease has expired) but it may say something else such as local only.
