PAYPAL - downgrade from Premium to Personal?

I have accidently upgraded from a personal to a premium account is it possible to downgrade and if so how do i do it??

Or should i leave it as it is - i know there is a charge from recieving money into a premium account so why would you want a premium account (except for recieving unlimited funds)?

Any help will be greatly appreiciated

You would need a premium account as a seller, otherwise you can't wihtdraw enough funds and you can't accept card payments.

I believe you are allowed to donwgrade once, a quick search through teh FAQ should bring up what you need.

You can downgrade but only once, so make sure you know what you want before doing it.

If you are just a buyer then a basic account is fine, if however you use your account as a seller and tick the 'I accept paypal' box on your auctions then you will need a premier account. A basic account can only take payments from an existing paypal balance whereas a premier account can take all forms of paypal payments which you are required to do if you take paypal as a payment option.

As you say though a premier account does mean you will pay a fee for every payment received in future.

I recently found myself in your position after I upgraded my account just to receive a credit card Paypal payment. Then I found that I even paid fees on some money that was sent to my account as a refund!

I am mainly a buyer, selling only the odd coupons and stuff occasionally for under a fiver, so I did not want to stay as a Premium account. Can't recall exactly how it was done but I asked the question on Paypal 'how to downgrade account?' and it told me how, so I did.

As others have said you can only do it once but I was certain I did not want to have a Premium account (and am not generally happy to accept credit card funded payments anyway due to the possibility of the funds being claimed back later).

So if you are only an occasional seller like me you can get by with a Personal account. It's a good idea to state on your listings that you 'will only accept Paypal when funded by the a/c balance or a Bank Account, NOT by credit card, so only bid if that is the case...' etc.

Thanks very much- but silly me has gone ahead and asked to be downgrading even thought i am selling. Oh well, will have to wait and see - or just upgrade again. Thanks Paul

Be careful if selling on ebay with a basic account as you must not tick the I accept paypal box, so when searching your auction will come up as a paypal not taken account. The moment you confirm that you take paypal then you *must* take all payments regardless of how they are funded. Failure to do so may get your account suspended if your buyers report you.

Also, it is worth noting that a bank transfer may also trigger the upgrade message, so you can't say you accept that either. If there is a debit card associated with the bank account then paypal very often pick that up. To be safe all you can do is state in the body of your auction that you will take paypal but only from an existing paypal balance, it may confuse buyers but you should be OK.

As for the refund, a refund done correctly will not incur charges regardless of the account it goes to as it is treated as a return of the original payment. However, if the seller does it wrong and just makes a payment to you then it is treated as a new payment and will incur charges. Any seller that does that is leaving themselves open to major problems as the original payment, if not refunded can still be chargebacked by a dishonest buyer.

Sorry but you are incorrect. Quoting from Ebay's Selling with Paypal page:

"Important: If you offer PayPal as a payment option on eBay (either using logos or text in the item description) we recommend that you accept all forms of PayPal payment including account balance, bank account transfer, and credit cards."

"recommend" So your buyers can report you to whoever they feel like, but you are not breaking any Ebay rules by offering Paypal but limiting it to non-credit card payments. However you will still get the stupid buyers who don't read your T&Cs and will threaten you when their payment bounces.

Refuse to accept a buyer’s PayPal payment using a credit card if the seller included the PayPal logo in the listing which signifies the seller will accept PayPal payments. Sellers are not permitted to state in their listings that PayPal payments made via credit card will not be accepted.

You cannot tick the 'I accept PayPal' on your listings if you only have a basic account because this implies that you accept credit and debit card payments which you don't. Your auction would show the PayPal logo which is showing the different cards you will accept.

You would have to manually insert a PayPal logo into the auction body itself and add something to say that you can only accept a PayPal balance transfer as a method of payment.

An interesting point razorbladekisses. Is the "paypal logo" that is referred to in the post I made above the first one you show (which is what I thought) or is it ANY paypal logo, like the second one?

I think in your post you were referring to the PayPal logo that eBay automatically inserts when you tick 'I accept PayPal'?

You can't tick 'I accept PayPal' have a PayPal logo showing all the different card types and then refuse a credit/debit card payment.

I included the second logo because I think you can just manually place that onto an auction without any problem because it isn't showing any credit or debit cards.
