Vaillant Combi 242/1E 'Noisy' ??

Our Vaillant 242 has started to make a 'sort of whinning' noise, when the heating is on. The noise stops when switching over to hot water and comes back on when the hot water is turned off.
I read all the plumber forum's and even had a Vaillant listed installer (not service) guy out, he wasn't sure what the noise was and did spend some time on the phone to Vaillant. Alas he never turned up yesterday with the part they thought was casuing the noise.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Other option is instant service package with Vaillant at £312

Does it whine on hot water to if you run the hot water for a while?
without being at the boiler i will have a guess at the heat exchanger scaled. Does it sound like a kettle boiling?0 -
Fingers crossed, I added 1 litre of noise reducer and 1 litre of Inhibiator this afternoon, so far so good, nice and quite.
Think I'll sign up for 1 years cover though, the boilers getting old and never had much trouble0
