  • I think that you will, if the item is valued over £18 then you should incur duty and tax. Normally this is paid by the carrier to Customs and then you will have to pay the tax + an administration fee to the carrier either up front before delivery, at the door or after delivery depending on who the USPS used to carry your goods.
  • From my experience, a few months ago I received a piece of clothing bought on ebay US and it was $60 declared value (which seller plucked out of a thin air however, as my bid price was $28!) but I didn't have to pay any tax/duty.

.I bought makeup recently from the US. Declared value was about £30 and I paid £11.50 collection fee most of which was handling charge.

Does this mean I will have to pay customs charges and if so, how do I go about doing this?

Not sure if it means you will be charged. Everything has to go through customs and a decision made there on whether a charge should be made. USPS are just telling you that they have done their bit and got it to the UK. Can you put USPS tracking nos. into the RM tracking? This might have more details.

When I tracked a parcel via USPS I found that the info wasn't quite accurate. I did however find out that Parcel Force picked up the tracking in the UK and I could get more info from their website using the same tracking number.

When USPS said they had "attempted delivery" it was actually sitting in my local parcel force office waiting for me to pay my customs charge. Everything gets delayed a bit as PF send you a letter telling you they have it and how much the charge is.
