I think you have hit the nail on the head Unity when you say.......but I think a truly genuine paranormal programme would be filled with hours of nowt much happening :D.

That is very true, there wouldn't be enough happening to keep most viewers interest although if the Most Haunted team wanted to do a serious programme then why not do programmes that consists of paranormal research ie. like the American version of Ghosthunters, more in depth historical facts about the actual haunting and places, so a programme with elements of Ghosthunters, Who Do You Think You Are and The House Detectives.

This is highly amusing and I must watch it more regularly to make myself laugh. I used to all the time at it. And I remember Mary Loves !!!!!!, I used to laugh at Derek and his "possessions" where all the voices sound exactly the same.

The bit I do like is when Richard does the historian bit.

As people have said before it's not really anything but entertainment. And as someone who helps run a website for one of the crew I don't think people should watch it expecting a 100% paranormal investigation as whatever happens it will always be questioned and there will always be people who will put any activity down as fake the same as there are people out there who believe everything on there to be 100% true. Unless people actually experience something for themselves in real life no-one will ever know if something is true or not.

At the end of the day it's entertainment which is why it's on television and the people who don't like it always have the option to turn over and watch something else.

The Mary Loves !!!!!! thing was pretty funny though :rotfl:

I agree fiddiwebb, but I think to do a serious programme would involve a lot more research and obviously a lot more hours of filming in order to be able to edit together pieces of film containing something worth watching. Unfortunately it is far easier to fake paranormal occurrences and more cost effective. Ultimately I expect they will lose viewers as there is a limit to a) the gullibility of even the most devout viewers ;) and b) the humour generated by Yvette screeching. Tbh I didn't mind her when it first started, but I find it really irritating when she starts shouting and goading "spirits" to do something .

So says one who is off to watch 'Enders, where Heather's in labour in the back of an ice-cream van :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.
Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever :D

I've been fascinated by parapsychology for years, but Most Haunted makes me cringe, as do a lot of the so called TV "psychics". Was watching a show with my mother where they had 3 or 4 of them (including Derek Acorah) doing "readings"...to be fair, there were one or two who weren't bad, but one woman (wish I could remember her name) was so flippin' *awful*. She'd get stuff wrong, back-track, cover her tracks (or attempt to), etc...was painful to watch. Even worse my mother fell for it. I expect better from her!

I believe psychic powers quite probably do exist, but a lot of "psychics" out there simply rely on body language and an in-depth understanding of human psychology. At least Darren Brown (or whatever his name is) is honest about his methods :).

There was a great one where they were all in a cave or tunnel and Derek raised his arm ( as if pointing) and got 'dragged' away by an invisible person yelling 'he's got me arm' or something.

Indeed your right, and there are 1 or 2 episodes where things possibly "do" happen. I seem to remember hearing a parade outside a castle in one episode and then the famous rolling beer keg episode, of which I tend to think both were paranormal.

The trouble is, fake just one episode, then ALL episodes will fall into the "fake" category. There is lirtally hours and hours of "non" episodes, so much that they resort to spending hours on something that might have happened "however insignificant" , or worse scenario although common, making something up.

I remember an episode involving a television they had switched on with just "wite noise" and were amazed at it turning itself off. However, any tv repair man could tell you that if you leave your telly on with no picture but "static", it will eventually switch to stand by mode, as part of an energy saving routine. However not even the debunker seemed to understand that basic principle.

The main reason I guess it's still watched, is the "what if..." scenario, imagine what would happen if an entity appeared in front of the crew, throwing furniture around the room or screaming "GET OUT!" How long would they hang around to "film" such indisputable footage?

My fav was one where Yvette was shouting "You dont scare me....come out you COWARD!", a noise was heard almost immediately, and she ran out of the building screaming in tears and saying "no, I'm not going back in there" and didn't.

Was it Derek Accora who was in the clip on Harry Hill?

"Yes, yes.. I've got a message coming through ... it's from your dog... he says.. Woof.. Woof ..woof ".
