Since people are mentioning attractions, I'll mention Warwick Castle which I visited recently.

I loved Warwick Castle as a historical trip with great grounds to walk around. Loved the trebuchet presentation and the dungeons which picked on me a lot!

But I have to agree that the Merlin Tower was a complete waste of money - I really hoped that they were playing on the BBC Merlin series to give some info about the Arthurian legends but alas no, it was dire. Even though it was aimed at 5-8 year olds, a couple who came in had to be led out as they burst into tears they were so scared. Really badly done.

I also agree the queuing is a horrible aspect. The entrance tickets were grossly overpriced and thankfully I had some BOGOF vouchers, otherwise seriously too much for me. Wish these places would appreciate that purse-strings are tight right now. :(
i before e, except when you run a feisty heist on a weird beige foreign neighbour

Perhaps we were there together as a child began screaming when I visited and the family had to leave as it drowned out the poor person trying to deliver his monologue.

I've been before and enjoyed it, but they're pushing the commercialisation and costs a little too far. Plan carefully to avoid queues and take advice on what extras would interest you. If your child's a big Merlin fan, then maybe the Merlin Tower will be his/her thing.

The Dungeon was well done, but is not for the very very young or nervous, or the elderly, as they go all out to scare you.

Actually the church close by is worth a visit as it has some fantastic tombs to see.
Never ever give your card details to anyone over the phone, and check the reputation of any company you do intend to give them to.
  • Longleat now offer a day pass (or 2 day pass) which would have solved the OP's problem as you have unlimited access to all the attractions for the duration of your visit. The ticket prices are rather steep (adults £26, children £18.50) but for unlimited entry for the day that isn't so bad as a special treat (and if you book online you get a 15% discounton those prices). We have been 3 or 4 times over the years and thoroughly enjoyed it each time, going back next weekend too... can't wait!

I don't think anyone has mentioned the SeaLife centres which are dotted around the country, what a load of overpriced crap, i am very glad my kids are no longer interested in these 'attractions', as i think most are a complete rip off.
