Well the problem i mentioned in the OP was the cv joint (or driveshaft, or is that the same?!)

However i've not bothered to get it fixed because it failed on just about everything possible! Main one being emissions (they said there's an oil leak within the engine) and it requires a new engine (£100-£150) plus fitting (£200) or the engine to be stripped which they said would be almost as much anyway,

Other stuff includes brakes, handbrake lever, registration plate, wheel bearing...etc...etc. Basically would cost £500-£600 + to fix and it would still need other things doing to get it right but that it didn't fail MOT on (cv joint for one).

So looks like my little car is at the end of it's life and needs scrapping. To say i'm gutted is an understatement, because i'm relying on the car big time at the moment, getting more and more immobile as my pregnancy progresses and son's school being a pita to get to by bus, and i'm trying to to even think about when i have a newborn baby to cart around too

So i'm in the market for another of my infamous cheap bangers, cos i have no means to get a better one yet, and need something to get me through winter at least!

I was hoping (well ok, dreaming:rotfl:) to get it through first time,

I was thinking that too on a £300 car :)

When cars get to this value then it's a bit of a gamble at MOT time and you should always assume you'll have to scrap it: Then, if it needs minimal work to get it through, you're happy. If it needs loads, then it's no surprise and you've had time to think about a replacement.

You can see how waiting for the MOT can save you money, so you don't spend money unnecessarily if it turns out your car fails disasterously anyway.

One exception: Tyres, steering and brakes. You should make sure these are always kept in good repair. If your car won't go, it's inconvenient. If it won't stop, then you really do have a problem!

I'd only just paid £100 for new pads and discs, so that's money down the drain i won't even get that much for scrapping the whole thing!

Not sure what the problem is with the rear brakes, something needs adjusting or tightening apparently. I knew it wouldn't pass first time, but thought i had a fairly good idea of what it'd fail on and i had a figure of about £250 for it lol, silly me :o
