Value kettle - yukky! The water tasted weird for ages - when we took it back the lady said lots had been brought back for the same reason!

so so true - we bought one when DS was born and used it in the middle of the night when we were feeding him - took us ages to discover that it didnt just taste weird cause we were so tired.

Can someone explain the difference between Tesco value and their regular range? I buy their value flour (about 12p for a 1.5kg bag, compared to about 40p for regular).

The quality of the flour is fine, but I agree, rice crispies are disguisting.

Is it just a loss leader range to get people into the shop?

Will try jaffa cakes and bananas - thank you.

    :T :T :T

I know someone who works for Tesco Head Office and it is totally that - a loss leader which gets people into the shops. They don't really make any money on it at branch level and you'll find that a lot of Value lines will be discontinued not that long after being launched. (Apart from the main ones that have been going for years like garlic bread, cheese, bread, beans etc.)that everyone buys...)

Also Value lines like cheese & flour are whatever the buyers are able to buy cheapest that week. So for instance the Value Full Flavour Cheddar could be mature Canadian one week and then a few weeks later could be Davidstow, then some weeks after that it could be a strong farmhouse as long as it is within the guidelines for that particular product.

Flour as another example could come from one source for months and then another for a few months then back to the original source or have a few companies supplying it in different areas. So if you buy your Value flour in Scotland and then the next week get it in London you are not necessarily buying the same flour even though they are both labelled up with the same Tesco Value packaging... I should imagine that all Value / Economy brands are run in a similar fashion.

The packaging is also cheap and cheerful, but the idea is that customers will buy Value brands alongside more expensive brands (Every little helps...)

Has anybody bought a "value" valentines card?

I buy all my cards from the Tesco Value range - 25p - you can't beat it! Why spend a load of money on a card when it ends up in the bin a few days later  !

I think the Valentine's Day card is really nasty and has a big Tesco Value logo on it - that's one to avoid (unless you don't mind being labelled a cheap-skate) ;):D !
